geofxc - Pat on the back for thinking of your kid first, no matter how you handle it you have to be able to look yourself in the mirror and know you did what you thought best. I was a kid in the 70's and everyone smoked back then (adults), I was a car sick kid on trips, and thought the air conditioner in the car burned my eyes. Through my late teens I was always the one that didn't smoke, smoking was the norm back then and I didn't start smoking till I was 23 and having "life" issues and thought what the heck gimme a cig, a lot of years later i'm finally vaping. I smoked around my kids and one of them never smoked and hates stinkies, refuses to be around it, the other 2 smoked but never in the house or car with their kids but quit and started me vaping. Now none of us are smoking.
I guess my point is kids first, my parents were wrong and so was I for smoking around them. It doesn't mean they will follow in your footsteps but they might. You are heading in the right direction:thumb:

Most of you are better parents than I was! My kids are grown now (25, 21 and 19), but I smoked openly in front of them. I never drank in front of them, but I did swear very often. :) I never hid anything from my kids, I just told them how the world worked and stated my warped opinions all of the time. I was just 18 when I had my oldest son, so I had an usual parenting style; more like a friend to them than a parent. The result: 3 smart young adults who go to college and don't smoke, drink or curse. :) Maybe I was just lucky or maybe what's going to be is going to be whatever you do. :)

My cousin was strict with his kids, never smoked, drank or cursed and both of his kids ended up in rehab.
