I see a lot of posts where people talk about not wanting to vape in public or being afraid their mod looks too strange and will call attention to themselves. Well I don't care what anybody thinks! I am not doing anything illegal and it is better for me and those around me if I vape instead of smoke. Anyone who cares about me will be happy that I found a way to get off of analogs, and anyone who doesn't know me can go pound sand if they don't like it. Last week I went to an offsite meeting for work and pulled out my ego at the social hour. My boss, his boss, and my peers were all positive about me quiting smoking and some even asked to take a drag off it. Everybody has their vice and smoking and now vaping is mine, and if someone says they don't have any vices, keep a close eye on the wallet and your kids.

I haven't been shy about it, but to my surprise, nobody has asked or even seemed to notice my Riva. I was out at the bar the other day and had it sitting in front of me and nobody said a word. I did ask the owner if he cared and he said no, so I vaped at the bar without any questions asked at all. It seemed a little strange because we are not allowed to smoke in bars, and I didn't even get any strange looks. Maybe I'm invisible.

I think that a lot of people's perception will be shaped by your attitude when you vape. If you are shy and secretive, they will probably think you are up to something suspicious. If you do it right in front of them and look them straight in the eyes, they may be curious, but if you are polite and confident they will likely respect your decorum and submit to your will. I applaud your direct approach, irefine.

That being said, there are many times and places where vaping will be out of place, confuse people, and generally cause a disruption and draw unwanted attention to the vaper. Thus, it is wise to consider the prudence of vaping in a particular time and place. A good example would be a nice non-smoking restaurant. If you start vaping in front of a large crowd of people who are paying good money to relax and enjoy their meals, don't be surprised if misunderstandings begin to occur. To me, a few drags on a PV is not worth confusing and potentially angering the people preparing my food.

I agree. I would never vape in a situation like this. If for some reason I just couldn't go without my nic long enough to eat dinner, I would excuse myself and either go outside or to a restroom stall and take care of it. I wouldn't want to bring negative attention to myself or vaping in general. A lot of people will think it is smoking regarless of the truth.

At first I thought that I would be shy about vaping in public, but I'm not at all. My sons play football and I even vape in the stands. I keep waiting for someone to ask me what I think I'm doing, so far no one has. Here we have a no tobacco policy on school grounds to smoke you have to leave the stadium cross the parking lot and go across the road. Many people have asked about my pv and I explain it to them and most just think that it's cool and are happy that I was able to quit. If asked not to vape in the stands though I would gladly comply. There's no need (for me) to cause problems where there shouldn't be.

I think the more places we vape the more converts, fewer smokers
there will be, win, win for everyone!
Talk it up, show it off, let everyone know they too can beat analogs!!

The reaction to my vaping was most suprising to me at work. I was one
of a VERY few smokers, (like 3 of us in the whole office <5%). When I started,
the reaction was very much "good for you, quitting smoking", although I
still get a few laughs from some because "it's just so strange".
One co-worker, super nose, can smell my vapor, much to my
suprise, and has flavors she likes better that others. But I always
get a smile when I walk by vaping and "mmmmm spearmint".

The biggest suprise was so far I have 4 possible converts, from people
asking does it really work? "I've GOT to get that for "my sister. father,
wife, brother......for Christmas" (small office even)

Ya know, I was just thinking about this.

I'm going into Mod Land, due to killing eGo's with my LR atties. I got over feeling weird in public with my Kr808's, and my eGo's. But I am not sure how I'll feel pulling out a shiny metal tube and taking a hit off it in public, ya know? I'm much more afraid of the cops eyeing me than I am with my more "standard" e-cigs.

I still feel weird about vaping a mod in public.

Any modsters who vape in public?

I do. It's not much different than eGo'ing in public. I think, generally speaking, we vapers don't get much gruff from the public because our PV's don't 1) require fire and 2) don't have anything burning and 3) vapor dissipates faster than smoke and doesn't smell.
I also think, like many other baby-boomers, I don't get questioned about anything I do like when I was younger. Maybe it's how I look now, I dunno. Old age garners respect, too.

When I get my Super-T, I will be showing all my freinds at work my new "ROLEX" Overall what I have found is that if someone asks what I am doing and I tell them vaping helped me quit smoking, they are very supportive.

I got stared at when pulling my RoughStack out and using it in public. I stared back and tapped some imaginary ashes off the shiny silver end and took another drag. The baffled looks were pretty satisfying.

Everyone probably thinks it's steam because it's so cold....hey, right there is your cover, it's a new kind of hand/lip warmer.

I love that. I'm doing it.

Lisa B - They must be thinking, "well now, that's the prettiest crack pipe I ever saw!" I always feel like people will think I'm smoking drugs in my e-cig. More so with a shiny metal mod.
