Actually Bush promised to vetoe this last time it came around in the House...:p

Bush threatened to veto lots of things... but he only ever used the veto once. The likelihood that he would have thrown a veto on a bill that passed with such a wide majority, no matter what the content, is practically nil. He would have done what he always did: append a bunch of signing statements to it and pass it into law.

11 regular vetoes and 1 pocket vetoe = 1. New Math?

No, you're right. I forgot that he finally threw down a few at the VERY end of his second term. But over the first 6 1/2 years of his presidency he didn't veto anything except stem cell research.

I still think he would have signed this. With a Senate override a virtual certainty and heavy political fallout inevitable, practically any president would have.

from where I sit, but he seems to want the credit for this.

No surprise there. It's a popular bill... mainly because people don't know what's in it. The issue has gone beyond rationality at this point. Smoking is a culture war, not a traditional political issue. The majority wants smokers clamped down upon and they don't give a damn what that entails. Welcome to the minority experience. Sucks, don't it?

You don't even read my posts before you make stupid statements like that, do you? I JUST SAID THAT HE WAS RIGHT AND I WAS WRONG.

Stop being a jerk, denec.

Wow that is admitting I am right?

no you cannot admit it....you think any president would have signed no matter what you just cannot get yourself to admit it because your messiah obama signed it

If Ron Paul or Bush were sitting president they would not have signed the Bill I would bet money on it

Let's review, since you're obviously another sterling product of the public school system:

I said that Bush only threw down one veto in his presidency. Smokingfreely pointed out that he had thrown 11 + 1. He was right, I was wrong and I said as much. That in and of itself puts the lie to your statement that I "can never be wrong."

And by the way, where's the 'ignore' function on this board?? If anyone deserved to be put on an ignore list, it's you, denec.

As far as your accusation goes: project much? I admit when I'm wrong on this board whenever I'm wrong. I doubt you can say the same.

Remember what I said about driving people away from the board? You're doing a GREAT job of it right now.

...so you are saying you think he would not have signed this bill correct?

I'm not. But that's not the point. The point is that I was mistaken about the number of vetos he used. Try and keep up here, denec.

i feel like i am in a circle ...holy crap...

who cares about how many vetoes he used while in office..that was not my point

the point is you said no sitting president would not sign this bill...and i gave you two examples Ron paul and Bush and I know for a fact Bush would not sign this and the same goes for Ron paul now if you want to list other republican presidents and candidates we can go from there

you keep making it sound like obama had no choice, that he had to sign this bill, he did not...he had total control of his arm and pen when he decided to sign the bill and no one forced him to signed it

here is a copy to remind you

And you continue to ignore the political atmosphere around this bill and the fact that a veto would have been overridden by the Senate even if he'd chosen not to sign it.

Look, I don't have a problem with disagreement. I respect your right to believe whatever you want to believe. What I don't appreciate is your constant attempts to smear me as an "Obama fanboy" and someone who "can't be wrong" and so forth. I strongly suggest you put a cork in that ****. It's inappropriate, offensive and has no place in this thread. If you want to insult me, feel free to take it to PM. Airing that crap here just alienates people. Shockingly, not everyone sees the world from your viewpoint. As I've said before, we're supposed to be working together here. Your personal political axe grinding is beyond old at this point.

so what? that means he doesn't deserve to be president,

if he thinks signing a bill is something that is wrong and goes against what he stand for then he should not be president and has no principles...even if he knows it will get passed anyway

if people took the same attitude many people in NY would not even bother voting this past election for president who supported McCain because they knew NY was going to go to Obama anyway, so should they have bothered to vote?

Yeah, because no other president has ever done that.

but what was he signing?

was it a bill he believed in? or something he just signed because he was forced to like obama was with no principles? LOL

to me if you are going to sign something you don't believe in don't see why you would take a picture with kids and look like you enjoy it?

Translation: It's okay when a Republican does it.

You're obviously only here to press a political agenda, denec. It seems evident from your posts that you have no interest in helping to promote personal vaporizers. Therefore my involvement with you is at an end. I don't have time to waste arguing with someone I should be working with. If you change your mind and decide to be productive in the fight against banning PVs, I'll be happy to have you as an ally. Until then, you're not welcome in my world.

Ok, my apologies in case someone has already posted this idea...

But...I think the key here... is that we need to start figuring out how to play this smoking weakness of Obama's to our advantage...I mean, if we can get HIM turned on to e-cigs...how much farther will we have to go? :)

It's a cute idea, but it won't happen. As T-Bob pointed out in another thread, there's just no way that Obama will ever be seen with a metal tube manufactured in China hanging out of his mouth.
