Or possibly a T Shirt that says I'm here for 100,000 smokers who will die without the ability to choose to use a reasonably priced less harmful nicotine delivery device that WORKS.

I was just thinking something similar. Something like: "I'm here for the 43 million smokers being told LIES about smoke-free alternatives!"

Well, how about this. The next time FDA holds a public hearing (usually in Maryland) charter some buses and show up en masse.

Sounds like a plan to me. Another is we all get together and call key senate and congress leaders. If 10% of vapers did that ( around 250,000 people) we would shut their phone lines down. I think some draft legislation would come about really soon after that.

FDA is not dumb, they know the benefit of e-cig. They also know e cig will effect their bosses (tobacco , pharma lobbyist..) earning. Not being negative but the fact is money rules the world. FDA doesn't want the public to know about e cig, media can care less. In another word "we are screwed". Sad to see how corrupted our government become. The reason we are one of the greatest countries on earth is because we can pretend to care about it people better than any other countries. As we can see here our government do not care about our health but only here to protect (lobbyist , the bosses). Occupy ...... is not political but that is how the media and the corporations want us to see them as POLITICAL EVENT. I grantee you if we make noise, they will portray as the same way as they do to occupy .......
Blu was bought by RJ. Who is next?... I should stop here , sorry for rumbling all over the place.
Yes i am angry, yes I am depressed (fighting corrupt system) but I do enjoy the tight community we have here.

Elaine,

Does the FDA listen or even care about what people think in these hearings, or is it a dog and pony show for big tobacco and big pharma's NRT money making garbage. These two special interests should not hold a dual monopoly over the consumption of nicotine.

If you ask me, it appears the FDA, big tobacco, and big pharma's' NRT, would rather see people die from smoking tobacco, rather than engage in harm reduction therapies such as ecigarettes that are proven to help tobacco smokers quit for good.

Next up, bypass the FDA dog and pony show, and hammer our federal and state legislatures with letters and phone calls, angry that our harm reduction personal vaporizers have been made useless by the FDA. We need nicotine in a safer, cheaper delivery system, and PVs are the future of smoking in this country.

Legislators look at one phone call, that may represent a number of constituents in their district. The truth may be, if everyone on this forum called their state and federal legislature on the issue, explaining the health benefits, and their anger at possible "deeming" and industry destroying FDA regulation, we could get a bill to tell the FDA to go pound sand, and permanently legalize PV juice containing nicotine. I think congress is our next step. Forget the FDA protection racket thugs.

I think that they are surprised at the sheer numbers of consumers that showed up and spoke at the last two meetings we attended. One was a meeting with the Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee (TPSAC) where the topic was another Tobacco Harm Reduction product, dissolvables. They were gathering input for a report they had to write on dissolvables. The good news is that they actually included a statement saying that using dissolvables would be less harmful than smoking. This was the first time they EVER said anything except for "this product is not a safe alternative..."

The most recent, of course, was the meeting on December 17 where the topic was Section 918. The panel for that hearing was mostly FDA employees from the division of the FDA that approves pharmaceutical products, with only two persons on the panel from the Center for Tobacco Products. Again, this panel was gathering input for a report that they have to deliver to Congress.

I think the message is getting through that there are many of us, and we are not going to keep silent.

The FDA is friendly to pharmaceutical companies in general, but barely tolerates people from tobacco companies. I don't know how much you know about the makeup of TPSAC. It has 12 members, but 3 are not permitted to vote. Those three represent the tobacco industry--all facets of it, including farmers, makers of auxiliary products such as filters and papers, and of course big manufacturers.

We are not going to pass up opportunities to speak at FDA functions. But we also plan to hammer the law-makers as well.

For those of you who don't remember the Vietnam era war and draft protests, this is what will probably happen, again. The police will bust heads and drag some of the protesters off to jail. They may even do a "Kent State" and call out the National Guard.

The facts are, we are a small minority of the country and world's population. No one cares what we think.

I would tend to agree that we are a smallish bunch, but we are growing daily.
And then you have to add all of the people that love and care about us, and don't want us smoking again.

But what I really think about is how many people know and care about a smoker...
That must be at least half the population?

Those are the people we need to get behind us.
