Ok to try and prove my point I have this I posted a few days ago on a different thread. It is a different setup but a coil is a coil and this one metered out at 1.5 ohms. Compare it to yours (R wire is 0.16mm) and think how can yours be almost double the resistance? Something is wrong pal.

I'm running 4 wraps and have a 1.2ohm coil right now, I wrap my resistance wire twice around my silver wire and do a very light solder to hold everything together. Then I do my wire wraps around a big sewing needle, which gives me a very nice even but tight coil, then thread my 2mm wick through the coil. Picture how a 510 Atty looks when you look down at the coil inside from the top, also have my coil down low in the cup so the wicks wick up the liquid and it rolls right to the coil. I like the soldering of the two coil wire ends to the silver wire better then twisting and rolling it back and twisting it together again, so my coil looks just like a 510 Atty's and the solder joint also looks the same as in a 510 where the 2 wires are soldered together. This takes some time to perfect and get use to doing but for me this works best. Oh and I also put an o-ring over my mouth piece down onto the last top cap and use a soft 801 mouth piece.

I also find I dont have to run my control tube wide open like this, and keep it more on the shut side, it's like how getting just the right amount of liquid to a regular Atty works and gives you that perfect vape when its just right, my wick stays at the perfect wet-ness with this type of coil set up, airflow is tighter too and draws more air to the coil which is a good thing when running more on the closed side if not closed rather then wide open like many run it.

Different stroke for different folks I guess but I get a much better vape and flavor with this set up rather then the lose further apart coil and I dont taste wick this way only more flavor. It's kind of fun trying different set ups to see what works best on this Ody.

At first I had burning taste issues when using the stock COV resistance wire too.Since then for $16 I bought 100ft of 32ga.and 100ft of 34ga.Nichrome 80 wire and I like it much better.I squeeze 7-10 wraps closely together now that i'm getting good at it and have yet to have issues with bad taste using the 32 or 34 gauge wire.I use double wick in the cup and on the sides and normally my juice control is open between 2 and 3 turns.

Funky I got a series of pictures for you of a coil I just made. It's made using Nichrome R=0.16mm and Nickel NR=0.20mm wires.

The length of the resistance section is just under 2.5cm

It's metered at

minus the internal resistance

That makes this coil a net 1.8Ω

and here it is wrapped around 2 strands of wick making 4 turns. If i used a single strand it would make at least 5 turns

Hope this helps pal

Holy Smokes, this thread got way too many responses since I left to respond to them one-by-one. I'll just clear things up. Sodapopinski: I know how to measure resistance and how to subtract the internal resistance of my Multimeter. It is .2-.3 IR. There is no math error, but thank you for the suggestion.

The coil in This picture is 2.8 ohms: DSC_0016.jpg

I am using a $350 Fluke Multimeter. The resistance goes up about .3 to .4 ohms when I install it in the Ody.

Thank you all for the conversion charts and references. The coil I just Made comes out to Exactly 2.8 ohms when installed, minus the .2 of the MM it is 2.6ohms. It is wrapped around my double-wick exactly 4 times, with both "braids" hanging down. The length of the R wire portion of the completed coil is precisely 3cm, I'm not sure what length I cut it to initially but after trimming, and braiding it is exactly 3cm.

Thanks Steve I will PM you my address, hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. Your pics are very detailed and that coil is beautiful.

Which would you recommend, the 32 or 34?

Funky please don't get me wrong pal, I never implied you don't know what you're doing. What I'm saying is there may be some issue with your meter because just by looking at your coils they don't look like they're that high resistance. The problem is that even if they are a bit less than what your meter is saying then you shouldn't be having much of a burning taste and if there is any it should go away by cranking open the juice control.
I can't figure it out either so that's why I said lets try with my coil and wick, that way we can see if the problem is there.
I'll keep this one in the pictures for you as I have it still unused so I'll send it to you.
Steve
