Sorry to go
off-topic for a minute here but I have a good Romanian friend that is about my age. We have talked for hours about his growing up and then living under the rule of the dictator Nikolai Chauchesku.
While that ended in 1989, his evil legacy lives on or the fallout of his rule I should say. Like many satellite countries of the old USSR, my friend says the people of those nations are still making the transition 20 years later to not standing in bread lines in front of shops with no bread while a select few had everything.
Now though, with Romanians that choose to make it so, have the ability to buy many things never thought possible under Chauchesku. My friend makes no excuses but states that as a fact (or as a fact for himself) that after finally tasting freedom and the infinitely more open market system in place now many remain bitter.
The legacy left by Chauchesku's rule will fade but not for another generation, maybe two. He states that now instead of bread other non-essential to life items are still hard to come by. When they see an abundance of some items in other parts of the world that they too can now afford, it is inevitable that they compare those with abundance to the times in Chauchesku's rule.
I cannot speak for the truth of any of this as it was only from one man to another man and it certainly doesn't excuse bad behavior. But if it has any truth to it at all, I'm sure it would explain the passionate stances taken by some such as the poster dragosbold.
My only suggestion and I agree it is easy to make since I live where I have never wanted for anything of substance, but Chauchesku is dead. Let the hard feelings die with him. There will be always some who have more or less of any item than yourself or myself. But this forum is not the place to debate the decency or decadence of the Western world.
It is for discussion of the GG series of PV's and a gathering place for friends of Imeo and follwers of his art. Going beyond that scope is going beyond discussion and help.
Thanks!
