I guess I have to know what role those nuts serve to answer the question. The drip mode nut seems to be almost optional. Perhaps it does hold the position of the rebuildable part relative to the base, but the base is pretty darn secure with o-ring pressure. On the short mode, it seem to only be a rim against which the mouthpiece compresses to control liquid, although I do not have one to see this in action. Perhaps the thickness difference is just a redesign in the drip mode version to allow it to fit in the slimmer base/head than the base/tank of the ody? I am speculating here. Anyone have a theory?
