My Odysseus has arrived. WOW... just wow! This is my first GG device and I'm definitely hooked and a fan of GG. :vapor:

The device was really easy to build and it vapes like hell!

The only thing I'm experiencing is still a strange "flavor" like metal or oil. I'm asking myself if it possibly comes from the wick or if I did not cleaned it out enough, but thats nothing negative about the device itself.

It fits perfectly on my ProVari thanks to the adjustable center-pole.

I've one question to my friends from UK:

I would like to order some spare wick and wire from e-cigz.co.uk and I'm not 100% sure about the wick and wire offer there.
Is the wick already the new, the Odysseus compatible, is the "atty Regular Wire - 2m" the non-resistant and respectively "Iatty Resistance Wire - 2 Metre" the right wires for the Odysseus?

Thanks for your help and best regards,
haze

Got mine :vapor: Will play with it later

I love the USPS, though . . . two CoV packages arrived, both I got shipping notices for within minutes of each other, one was shipped Priority and the other 1st Class, but both reached my local Post Office and then my mailbox at the same time . . . I guess I'll just save the money on shipping costs for the future and stick with 1st Class

I ordered the Nextel XC-116 wick and here is the story why and hopefully others can either validate or point out the error in my ways.
I have OdysseusX2 so upon recommendation the first thing I did was to take apart and clean both of them. I took the metal parts and gave them a soak in Everclear and brushed them with a new toothbrush, rinsed them with water and dried these parts. The O-rings I washed in soapy water and then rinsed well in hot water and dried these.
I made the first Odysseus for my wife and she uses BWB Vanilla Bean and it vaped like a champ on her silver bullet and I could not taste any off flavor but the first thing she noted was a soapy taste and this is after not mentioning a word to her that people were reporting this on the forums. It was me that should have had a bias towards tasting this and I guess I could not however she vapes that flavor daily and would be more apt to detect a flavor change.

Then I made mine and I vape Pink Spot and the off flavor is very pronounced off flavor. So much that I have to wait until my new wick comes in unless someone can come up with a remedy. It is a soapy chemically type flavor that drowns out the flavor of the juice and although it seemed to lessen as I vaped over time I just could not tolerate it for long enough. I am certain it is my coil be it the wick and or the resistance wire because I test burned it while it was dry right after making the coil and I could smell what I was tasting in the vapor. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

No, how would you suggest to proceed with either or both of these process using the stock wick. I could try it in about 5-6 hours and give feedback tonight.

I havn't gotten my Ody yet so I havn't used the new wick but I washed all of my Nextel and old e2 wick and the origional in plain vodka. Normally I just stick the wick on the end of a long pin and either dunk it a few times or let it sit in Vodka for 5-10 minutes. When I take it out I pat it dry with a papet towel and wrap/install like normal.

What I plan on trying tonight when my ody arrives is torching the new wick for a bit to burn off anything left on it then a 5 min soak in vodka followed by a pat dry to remove any excess torch gas from it.

Please keep me (and others) updated on your findings. I will be able to experiment at about 6PM or so central time so I will check in to see what you and or others are doing. My Nextel wick will likely not be to me until Friday but maybe on Thursday.

Thanks for all the tips Para! I will definitely keep them all in mind... Just one question; I'm not sure I understand exactly what ""Cut" in one direction only" means. Are you suggesting to not go up and down with the file through the channels but to only choose to either go only up or only down with every stroke? Thanks.

I would suggest being very careful with the ceramic. Got my Ody yesterday and when I first took it apart noticed that a corner of the ceramic was cracked off at the channel where the wick & wire go. It was broken where I could easily get to it so I just used some super glue to put it back on. Then I noticed another "crack" in an area I couldn't access to glue so I decided to remove the ceramic from the metal cylinder so I could get some more glue on it. Well, the ceramic came out very easily but once outside of the metal cylinder the ceramic just crumbled like a cookie and is now completely unusable. I sent an email to Bruce at COV and I'm sure he will make it good but it sure is disappointing to have waited so long to get this and now have to wait again to get a replacement part. I sure hope that being so fragile isn't something that is typical of these ceramics. Oh well, at least I still have the Iatty and UFS so I ain't completely out in the cold while waiting haha. The Ody is a beautiful piece of machinery though and I can't wait to get it going properly.

I wouldnt use glue. The ceramic will get hot and you will be vaping lungfulls of crazy glue. If the ceramic was that brittle, it means it wasnt fired correctly

as torqueguy says dont mess about glueing internal parts this way EVER as you dont know what your going to take into your lungs.

sorry this is a little of topic but a few months back a guy who lives about 30 miles from me was in the news and give e-cigs a bit of bad press because he decided it would be good to vape olbas oil in his e-cig which killed him so please only use sustances that are meant to be used inside e-cig parafanalia.

again sorry to take this off topic but im very set against people putting chemistry that is not meant to be in their e-cigs

Yes, you guys are right. Not a smart move on my part but fortunately I didn't get the chance to vape it with the super glue before the ceramic crumbled apart. I should have known better than to even try something like that.
