Ya know what? That may not have been the problem...

Here's what I tried, and I'll just spell it out so that it may help someone in the future. First, I took my needle and started sticking it in between the coils, to pull the wick up and make it bunch up a little more in between the coils, to make more contact. Made a real mess of it. Then put a couple extra drops on each side, it wicked nicely to the middle. I then tried vaping with my mouth right on the tank barrel - no mouth piece, no top ring, just lips right on the tank. Vaped and tasted great.

Put the mouthpiece on, and it instantly tasted nasty again. Took the mouthpiece off, vaped on the tank, and it tasted fine again. Now I'm thinkin what the heck... So I started thinking about what vaporologist said about the wire, so I thought I'd double check that. Turns out the wire that was sticking out just a bit WAS the wire that goes down to the base, not the ground... Spent a few minutes carefully tucking it down, put the mouthpiece on and added some more juice, and bam - tastes great.

At this point, its been vaping perfectly for about 15 minutes. No nasty weird taste like I was getting before.

Is it possible that the main wire was making contact with the mouthpiece, and forcing the current through some other spot instead of the coils? It still made a distinct "hiss" sound, but it also had a distinctly WEIRD taste.

I don't know for sure that this IS the case, but its certainly interesting that it happened only with the mouthpiece screwed on, and stopped only when I tucked down that end

Nice, but that's only half a post. How well do each of them work???

Sorry, for leaving this open :) Well, first of all I did all coils at around 1.8 Ohms and used my GGTS with Panasonic NCR batteries which should perform like an AW on these coils. During my experiments I got used to the liquid control and don't have dry hits on a single strand setup anymore, at least I can steer against it if it happens...
But, I was used to 2 strands in my iAtty and the flavour is somewhat richer with a 2 strand setup compared to a single strand (simply cause it burns more liquid).

So, to sum it up:
The Loop with its 3 strands provides lots of liquid and performs best in a low resistance setup (let's say 1.5 Ohms and less). The coil gets cooled too much by the amount of liquid in a higher resistance setup (>2 Ohm). Same happens if your battery looses power and performance drops, so its probably not what I will be using often.

The Buffer and Handshake perform good for me, good flavour, vapor and response.

The Well is a bit tricky, hard to explain in short. I would not use it anymore, its not worth it. Had a good vape with it too and had the subjective impression that it was even more capable of storing liquid but on the other side you might have liquid dripping into the air-channel and you have to take care that the end of the coil is hidden in the "pouch" where the strand is folded, else you risk the coil to touch the screw that touches the center pole.

Conclusion: I will use the Handshake regular and the buffer if I got a remaining piece of wick. But will also try the "Shoe" trick mentioned by Poppa D :)

Nice coils, ManniGfaltig! I tried the Fright's buffer yesterday, with 0,2mm Kanthal instead of the nichrome. Lots of vape clouds but the coil heats up a bit slow on the stealth.
Would you mind to share your experiences with the different coils you tried?

The Well was build using 0.2 Kanthal and I also experienced that it needed a bit to heat up but then it was fine, good vapour and taste, I might try 0.2 Kanthal again with a lower Ohm value if I get my AWs, then it should be fine.

I'm having a little problem and a big problem.

The little problem is it's a little to airy for me. I put an o-ring between tthe Ody and the Stealth cap and it really tightens it up. I'll have to reset teh center pin if I do that.

The BIG problem is my mustache get caught in top tightening ? ring :p

What do you vape? Mine look like they have a crust of asphalt on them after 8 days... that thing looks like you just put it in...

Or is this your 8th day of coil making and it is a brand new coil? :) (That makes more sense) If that's 8 days old you sir are a magician

What NR wire are you using Oddy ?
Just stock NR sent with oddy mate, if your refering to the bit of silver you see its a silver crimp just peaking out under the wick.

8the Day with the odysseus, lol, pen and teller couldn't make 8 days crust dissapear.

it was just to illustrate how close the wire should be without choking the wick as some loose coils were posted earlier :)
