hmm weird must have been before my time. I heard that back in the day folks actually had something called cartridges and they de-bridged their atomizers. Pretty stone age if you ask me.

I remember when I had my provari v1 and a debridged 306 LR 1.5 cisco atty with a cannon drip tip. And now I sit here and my mod is basically doing EVERYTHING for me. Love it.

Kanthal is a type of resistance wire many use to build their heating coils....

Hey you are fine!

As long as it works! Right?!

If I wasn't educated in this stuff (Electronics, Chemistry and IT) I wouldn't care, as long as it works! ;)

And trust me there are a lot of things I don't know chit about, as long as it works when and how it is supposed to, it makes me happy....

Being highly educated only means you spent a lot of time learning how to pass tests, it doesn't mean you REALLY know anything....I was working on computers when there were no classes for them, and programing when I was in High School....like a ways over 30 years ago!

When I was 16 I took apart a Volvo P35 1600 CC 4 cylinder engine and with a bit of my dads help completely rebuilt it....
(He only helped when I asked).

My dad was a tool and die maker, aka Millwright, or Master Machinist....

Erlkonigin 23mm ss tank.
Ni200 on the Vapor Flask DNA 40.
2.75 mm ID
10 wraps...spaced coils
30 g Ni200
0.21 Ω
Rayon wick
Highbrow Vapor English Malted Toffee 6mg/nic.
18.7 watts
440 ℉

This is the largest coil I've ever installed in the Erlkonigin. Boy did I have to do alot of hair styling. I'm using a long-time ADV. It has never tasted finer. I plan on playing with watts and temp, but so far it is just stellar.

Kiwi or someone else I have a question. How come if I take off my kayfun or rda and put it back on that it taste like crap? I lowered the w and temp and it was back to normal and I crawled back up to my desired temp/ watts.

Don't understand how that can be as nothing changed other than me taking off the arty and putting it back on.

Ok, lets assume you put your atty on at room temperature you hit the up button when you get the new coil prompt and you vape for a few hours. Then you take your atty off to clean fill whatever and put it back on and do NOT get the new coil prompt and the vape is harsh or tastes like crap.

Same thing happened to me, the adjustable center pin on the atty spun in and now It's not making good contact. It dawns on me that the 510 connector I used is a spring loaded from fat daddys and we are talking .1ohms which is in the ballpark of making a connection but not a solid connection. So I screw the center pin back out on the atty, put it back on and still no new coil message but suddenly it vapes like it did before I took it off. So that gets me to thinking, with this new Ni200 and centiohm builds, the 510 connection has to be absolutely solid. No juice on it, no oxidation, perfectly flat, firmly pressed together.

Found an easy way to make the 40 give you a message for new coil, unscrew atty until the display says 0.00 ohms...

Anybody else bothered by this message? With no atty on it should say ∞ ohms, or "No atty", or maybe "999", but zero ohms? What, it shorts itself out when you take off the atty? [In a sing-song voice]: I. Don't. Think. So.

When you hit the fire button it does say check atomizer but yeah infinity symbol or 999 would be technically correct for an ohms reading.

Also, this doesn't always work.

This does not bother me.

If it says you have zero ohms when you have no atty attached, it's telling you you have a short -- which you don't. So what's left for it to say when you do have a real short?

The display will read Short but no idea what it will read for ohms...999? LOL Just some cynical humor I couldn't help myself...apologies.

I'm sorry if this has been answered already..I started reading last night.. got through ~300 posts..lol.

We're getting into impedance here, so someone make it easy on me. What is the impedance of a x-Ohm ni-200 coil at the peak heat at x-Wattage?

x-Ohm

LOL sorry couldn't help myself.

Impedance is resistance in this case since we are in DC land, if we were in AC land then we would have to know the reactance. Ni200 resistance increases with temperature and has a temperature coefficient of resistance of 0.004/0.005 per degree Celsius. So lets say your coil is .27ohms at 20 degrees C and you set the temp limit to 450F. At 450F or 232C the answer is .27 x (1+.004 x (232 - 20)) = .498. Assuming I did the math right.

Ok...well, someone gave me a complex to doubt what I thought. I yelled at someone early this year (I remember cuz I was freezing outside on a job..45 minutes of nothing to do at a time)"...stop trying to blow people's minds with big words, and impedance only applies to circuits with frequencies";)...

Something along those lines..someone else argued with me.

Back in the day they only used the term impedance, back when Edison was trying to screw Tesla, correct?

I don't know, never met the man, wish I had, but that was a little before my time. LOL  sorry...couldn't resist.

I too have noticed people using the word impedance when they are talking about DC, I do not know their motives, but you could be right.

Love that the nickel wire is SO soft, it's deal easy to coil a nice spaced coil, or a super tight contact coil.

Not sure how itll stand up to the abuse from wicking with rayon though. Hmm.
