I'm not quite done with my current book (see above post) but I was struck with one other, and it dawned on me as to why.

The book is Fallen, by Erin McCarthy.

It is set in modern-day New Orleans, but does have flashes back to an earlier time. Yes, it is a romance....yes, as all romances do, it has a happy ending. But there is little to no graphic-heavy breathing- about it. That's not the type of romance I enjoy (my own fantasies are MUCH better :D)

It does have a supernatural angle to it, as well as a murder-mystery aspect - so an excellent genre/twister...it does not stay within the bounds of any specific "style" of book, but blends many together.

The thing that struck me so powerfully about this novel are the characters...the author does a magnificent job portraying recovering addicts....the female lead in the book is battling against prescription meds, and the male lead is a recovering alcoholic...but that's just the bare bones of it... The author goes deep within these characters to display all the inner demons. Her characters are damaged by their dependence. That's why I recommend this book here.... we're all nicotine addicts, and this story was a good tool to more fully understand my own addiction.

Hope anyone who picks this one up enjoys it as much as I did..... Vicks

I've put up some new stuff in my blog, too, if anyone's following it.

I'm in the process of a linked series of articles - taking the most frequently used arguements agains our PV's that the antis use and debunking or debating them.

so far, I've got 2

the "Think about the Children" arguement.
the "Gateway to tobacco" arguement.

Oh, you'd be surprised at the interesting things we have in this library...after all, I can't store reading material in the dungeon.... it'd get all moldy.

Mold on the walls is fine, on the books - Sacrilege!
