This thread sure provides ample anecdotal evidence that e-cigs can certainly be an effective smoking cessation method. The FDA would do well to observe this phenomenon and not be so hasty in their condemnation of the device.
I got my first e-cig (a 103 cigarette look-alike) in March '09. I had been a 2-pack/day smoker for 22 years (smoked American Spirit Organic Lights, which went to $6.70 a pack after the tax bump). From the day I got the e-cig, I went down to 5 or so a day. I just took it easy, not pushing any particular agenda, I was just happy that I had cut back so much so easily.
When my existing stash of analogs ran out, I told myself that I'd wait till the next day to go buy a pack, I'd just vape for one day and see how it felt to me.
Well, that was April 28, and I've not gotten around to buying that pack. I love vaping (use 801s mostly, but I have a 501, a mini-pipe, and I've tried the e-cigar, as well). It has allowed me to quit smoking but still enjoy the familiar rituals of what I like to call "inhaliatory pleasure".
God bless old Hon Lik:
