Outdoor smoker. Satisfied with ecigs, but still have to go outside every 1-2 hours.

I smoked for almost 15 years and have vaped for about 2 years and still love to go outside and vape.Thats part of my smoking/vaping habit I dont think I will ever break and dont want to :) I build fires with my kids all the time and listen to some classic rock and love vaping by the fire just as much as I did when it was a real cig in my hands.Do what makes you feel good and dont worry about having to change completely.Congrats on quitting the real cigs my friend :)

I know what you mean. I usually smoke in my garage which smells really awful due to all the cigarettes my husband and I have smoked in it. It's not the greatest place to go to but I feel compelled to go there. When I get home from being out the first thing I do is head to the garage. Today I got my new vaping kit and when I got home I stared at the door feeling really out of sorts. My husband headed straight out (he's not ready to try changing yet) I decided to go find a more comfortable place to vape. I kept feeling like it just didn't feel right and got kind of anxious about it so I decided to go vape in the garage. I gave in to the urge to smoke all the while thinking that my ecig compares really well with cigarette so why do I feel compelled to do this? I guess I am just struggling with the physiological habits. I am happy that I have only had a couple of cigarettes in the last 14 hours though. Normally I would have had anywhere from 14 to 16 by now and it hasn't been that hard so I am hopeful that after a little while I wont want to hang out in my smelly garage anymore. Maybe sticking to some of the things you are used to will help and over time you won't feel so bothered by it. Good luck :)

I still go outside at work and at the club or bars even though i don't have to. I like the social aspect of smoking with other people. And I like making them feel ridiculous when they try to embarrass me about smoking e cigs too. And i get chicks with it at bars :)

Now I'm curious what you said. Some friends came over yesterday and made fun of me, till they realized I didn't have to go outside with them and could vape when/where ever. Then they all tried it, and kept passing it around and not smoking their cigs. Thank goodness I have two.

I still like to go outside and vape (alone or with friends that smoke), it relaxes me and doesn't cause a trigger for a smoke. With coffee though, I now drink it inside and vape, since that is my strongest trigger.

Thanks, everyone. After reading the replies, I've decided to go outside when I want to go outside. I just didn't like being bound to a ritual. I'm hoping that eventually it will go away.

I do vape indoors, too, but I still have to go outside sometimes.

Human beings were born outside. It is our home. Its not an obligation or a ritual so much as it is a part of who you are. If you need to get out of the house/office and get some fresh air, vape or no vape, then by all means do it. Do it barefoot too.

I am the original poster here, and I have to say, WOW.

Things have changed. I do not need to go outdoors to smoke anymore. I also have developed a system so that I don't just smoke constantly. I smoke every 1-2 hours indoors. I also go outdoors to walk, so it's not like I'm missing out. If you like going out to vape, more power to you, but I am happy that I can stay inside.

I also spend less than half of what I was spending, as far a money. I'm so happy.

There is this VERY rarely used restroom on my campus. I mean, seriously rarely used. I've sat/stood in that room for a solid 15 minutes before someone eventually came in. I'm sure it smelled like Teddy Grahams when I left. ;)

EDIT: Oh man there are so many things wrong with my reply... Should I edit it or leave it for posterity?

Teddy graham juice? where can I get some :D

We're new to this too (and self-employed)...we're quickly finding that we seriously miss the ole "smoke break habit" (and don't know if we'll keep it or ditch it eventually). Que sera sera.

Stopping the outdoor ritual? Why would you want to stop doing such a wonderful thing? We humans (imo) are FAR too 'out of touch' with Mother Nature (likely one of the many reasons we have so much stress). I vote for "keep the ritual"!

This is one of the reasons I moved to ecigs. But I feel lost if I don't continue this ritual of going outside every 1-2 hours, breaking up my day. I'm happy that I've successfully gotten rid of all real cigs, but any tips on stopping the outdoor ritual? Thanks.

I went thru that for about the 1st couple weeks, to month... It got really fricken cold, and fixed itself :D

I go outside at work- but I'm in a call center and *need* to get some fresh air and walk around a bit.

I also go outside with my coffee and the dog in the morning- helps wake me up!

smoking was almost like a "time-out" for me.. I could be alone, kinda get some fresh air, no one would be bothering me.. I find I still need to do this with vaping- I'm comfortable doing it inside at home, but in public places... it is a psychological thing, and if you feel the need, do it- it will only help with the transition and longevity of your choice.
