WHOA buddy no scalps and no sides with me!!

I was venting on the aimed focus on this bill under the guise of anti terrorism and child protection.

It's too late Dred, I already donned warpaint. Just hang a couple feathers over your doorway....friend or foe sorta thing. You've already submitted an offering via Pony Express rider, so you'll be an honorary member of the Cherokee (and Irish) nation. Nothing to worry about on your end. Squaw's are welcome ;).

I wonder what's behind this?

SnusOn.com - Snus Forum :: View topic - PACT UPDATE in the House, unfinished business...

"Mr. Cohen moved to suspend the rules and pass the bill."

It is interesting that the suspension of rules failed and PACT is now unfinished business. It is also interesting that they even tried a suspension of rules on this particular bill as this procedure is really only used on non-controversial bills. Apparently PACT is more controversial than Cohen expected and doesn't have unanimous bipartisan support even though it moved to the House quickly."

Hmmmm.......

    Somewhere between here and there
I went and read that TV. It is good that they did not push it thru so easily as they thought they might. I don't know when they will get back to it but any delay is welcomed. I thought they were supposed to be concentrating on the health care thing this week.

TV and Hittman, this articles sounds to me like it could be part of the reason for a delay as the Indian tobacco industry wants hearings...although of course, I'm not sure this was the reason for the delay, but it does sound like a problem to just pass the bill. Or like so many things...we may never know. WDYT?

White House weighs stance on cigarette trafficking bill
    TUESDAY, MARCH 16, 2010
Filed Under: Business | Law | Politics

President Barack Obama is weighing his position on the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act, a White House spokesperson said.
The bill prohibits the U.S. Postal Service from delivering cigarettes and certain tobacco product, effectively kill the Indian tobacco industry. Tribes say it was developed without their input and without full hearings into the impact on their rights.
The Senate passed its version of the bill last week. There are some differences that have to be addressed with the one that the House passed last year.
“The White House continues to examine the PACT Act and is working with the Department of Justice to consider the bill’s impact while Congress resolves the differences between the House and Senate bills," White House spokesperson Shin Inouye told Indian Country Today.
Tribes were trying to have the Senate Indian Affairs Committee hold a hearing on the issue. Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), the chairman, worked "informally" to address tribal issues, an unnamed spokesperson said"

I donno. "Informally working" chairmen is usually where the problems start. Hard to say what kinda loop-holes get crammed in. All I know is I don't care who delivers, I don't care if I have to drive to PA once a month or quarterly, somehow I'll get snus (ha ha, I made a funny)....I do care about the ongoing rape of the tobacco community. My state collects its due taxes, some of which are redundant....ooowh, and don't bring up those unconstitutional property taxes......, we have a lottery......mega bucks..what the cornball do they do with all that dough???......we have a budget deficit, why???.....needless programs, too big, maybe the Governor's brother-in-law has a failing construction company, waste, waste, waste.......if a government can't operate within its financial means, why do we have to pay? I sure can't run my household that way. My dad built his home with his own hands, paid sales tax on all the materials as well as the land it's built on. The loan he got to do it has long been paid-off. He's dead now, but my mom still lives there with just enough money to keep the lights on. If she can't afford to pay her annual unconstitutional property taxes, there goes the house. It's all wrong, we live by a standard and our lawmakers side-step. They'll get their way and we can't stop it from happening. Sure, we can vote 'em out, but there's the next liar...er...lawyer to take his place. I see no alternative......scalp the White Man........I got a tomahawk ta grind :-x!!

    Man that was quick though!!!

"Senator Herb Kohl (D-Wis), the Senate father of the PACT ACT said the ATF had six active tobacco smuggling investigations in 1998. In 2010 it has more than 400. Four Hundred? Senator, there are 45 MILLION cigarette smokers in the US in 2010. With FDA under the authority of The Tobacco Act doing everything it can to destroy any non-Big Pharma reduced harm tobacco alternatives, smokers will continue to smoke."

^^Yeah!^^ I go to loathe now. Oh, and Jim Abrams went from #319 to #2 on my scalp list :-x:

""Congress has moved to stamp out a multibillion-dollar tobacco trafficking industry that has enriched criminals and terrorists and made it easier for kids to buy cigarettes online.". His article goes down-hill from there repeating the propoganda and false claims of terrorism and smuggling Rep. Weiner based H.R.1676; The PACT or as Weiner cynically called it, the Prevent all Cigarette Trafficking Act."

I should pull out my black armband, although not even the most optimistic of tobacco consumers could have thought for a minute that PACT would not become law. It has the most overwhelming support I've seen in years. And of course Obama will sign it.

This is truly a "follow the money" issue at a time when governments federal and state desperately need tax revenue. "Sin" taxes get the first boost. To assure taxes are collected, users must be herded into local tobacco stores. No online purchases allowed. How to accomplish that? Shut down delivery methods. You have freedom to order your legal product; you do not have a right to delivery of it.

The last word on this has not been written until we see how enforcement shakes out. I'll continue to order snus online until I'm told it is no longer legel (or it becomes prohibitively expensive). After that, who knows.

Surely no one here thinks e-cigs will survive the next two years ...

This is not good news no matter how it shakes out. I was hoping to have time to try out a few more labels before making a mountainous order... but suppose I'll just stock up on the essentials now and wave goodbye to the more exotics that seem likely to be out of reach in a no-mail order world. :-x

It is not the end of the world, despite what others that should know better are saying. You will still be able to order snus and snuff on line. Your tax in Tenn. is 6.6% of wholesale. That's nothing. You'll hardly notice it.

At the moment there is no reason for you to make a mountainous order. WI is a bit different with 100% wholesale taxes, and I will be doing a few larger orders. But that's just to save on taxes as opposed to fearing that I can't get the stuff.

Stubby....I was under the impression the taxes were State tobacco taxes and not just sales tax.....am I wrong to assume?

You will pay the state and fed tobacco taxes. That's collected at the point of sale by the vender. But if ordering from a vender outside your state you won't be paying the sales tax. It's that same for any catalog or on-line sales (as in Amazon). Of course there is a push by some to try and get the taxes from on-line sales but that's a separate issue.
