What does everyone think about the brass monkee on top? I might try and drill this sucker for a bf.......

That is a sharp looking combo! Can we get a look under the hood?

that's because up until now no bottom feeder was ever built to handle really high amperage. drippers with really big cloud high draw setups can't do bottom feeders until now really

I agree, I think too many make such a big deal about material conductivity where in reality that only comes into play when the mass is minimal. example, if you wanted to try and dead short a car battery to failure and you had a 14 gauge becu wire and a #4 aluminum wire, which would you choose? of course becu conducts better but the much heavier gauge aluminum would ultimately allow way more current flow because of the amount of additional mass. all these guys running around with full copper mods thinking they hit harder are really buying into a hype and misinformation I think, the mod wouldn't be the limiting factor, the contacts would.

I think of it as a highway and the electrons are the traffic, the material determines how many lanes of traffic can flow, so brass may only be a 4 lane highway, aluminum may = an 8 lane highway where becu may be 14, but how much difference do you think this makes when there is a toll booth at each end of the highway that only allows 2 vehicles to pass at a time? the toll booth is the contacts, a circuit is only as good as it's weakest link. yes resistance is cumulative but the limits wind up being at whatever the weakest link is, and the contacts are going to be it every time, especially a make break at the battery itself.

 I think I have to pee. . .. . . .

. . . . .are we there yet?

Another great vid Russ, but I have to admit, mounting that 'Z' coil sure looks like a major PITA! I certainly don't miss that aspect of the Chalice...

your former Chalice is the only atty my dibi OliveR has known-- just to let ya know it went to a good home :)

Glad its being put to good use. Couldn't think of a more deserving mod to use it on, and had I known about Pete's plans a little earlier I might not have sold it, but then again I would not have been able to fund the OliveR, so I guess its a push.

Is there a thread anywhere that shows a dissected chalice? I've always wondered how the positive pole makes contact.

Me too. But I don't think anyone has ever tried to take one apart. I'm only guessing but the deck must be pressed into the base? I dunno looks like one piece it's so well made but I have no idea.

If we translate this into automotive terms it'd be like tearing down a brand new Ferrari to see what the crank shaft bearings look like :)

Let me know if you find anyone crazy enough to do it :)

Bet you can find a wrecked one pretty easily, check junkyards in the LA or NYC area:).
This one probably won't end much higher than $25K :

OK random newbieish question.
How do you know when a coil has run it course and needs replaced? Will a coil even after dry burning eventually not hit as hard as it should?

when the flavor drops off is when I rebuild, but that has only happened once and that one was over a month old. takes a long time for me. latest is an .6 ohm 24 gauge coil on 14 gauge needle. been going a week, looks new. i usually want to clean the atty before the coil is done though.

typically I damage the coil in some way that requires a new one. wick on the other hand, about a day or two days tops. again, replace when flavor drops off or goes goofy. :)

Excellent question! I have a clapton coil that has been in use for over a month now and my regular micro coil is almost there at 3 weeks. So far, I don't see any reason for changing it unless the performance degrades, or I simply get bored with it.
