if I do the dibi conversion there would be no going back. in a way it would ad bloat, the dibi is awesome because it don't have any bloat, so in a way, and as much as it would make it awesome in some ways, it would also be taking away the svelt sleek minimalist that makes a dibi a dibi. not sure if it's worth the tradeoff tbh

that plate started out as a solid chunk of brass that I machined down to the size and shape I needed it to be.

True... that's what I said about the dibi too. But I can't make those changes. On the other hand, you bought the dibi to use.... and if it's #2 for you because it's not what you want to use...

I only decorate mods where something about it bothers me, or to make doing something easier, or I think it would improve the look. I added a button to my woodvil door because I wanted to slide it down easier to change the battery for example. I don't see any reason to change anything on the dibi, so I know what you mean:).

yes, 11, and your Amboyna is ridiculous (gorgeous, resilient, ideal). No, not 14, 2 slots left in 18.

Thanks! Yeah I'm not giving up that Amboyna any time soon. I'll wait around 2 weeks. If the Bog Wood is still available, then I'll take it as fate and sign up for another run. I guess having 2 of a kind is a whole lot better than having 1. :D Who knows, maybe it'll make my birthday on 2015. :D

Hey all! Grab some ground and have a seat, I have a yarn to spin. Hopefully, it will be both entertaining and educational.

Almost exactly 2 years ago, we had a tornado come through here (only the fourth one on record for these parts). Sadly, it decided to take a chunk out of our house. Amongst all the casualties, all of the floors in the house were damaged, and needed to be replaced. Being the anachronistic curmudgeon that I am, I was overjoyed when the wife requested full wood floors throughout the entire house. (Ok, it is bamboo, but still wood in appearance and function.) I grew up in the day where solid wood floors were the norm in all houses, and was really sad to see them replaced by spun yarn. Polyfiber whatever just does not have the same feel as wood as far as warmth (from the heart, rather than a furnace).

So, now as an adult (debatable) I have spent two years observing the wood floors. I never took the time to do this as a youngun, even though I was able to gather a much closer perspective. I have seen the gaps in the floor go from miniscule (where you would have a hard time putting a business card between the seams of the wood) to gargantuan, which according to the wife are big enough so that the cat litter will fall between the seams.

Fast forward to the OliveR, run 2. There was much debate about the battery rattling. I never really experienced that. Yes, there was play with the battery, but the o-ring that is placed in the top more than corrected that. I replace my battery on a daily basis, and can tell you that the dimensions of the battery compartment change on a daily basis. Note that we live within watermelon seed spittin distance from the only remaining rain forest in America (and probably the North American Continent). As many people have said about the weather, If you do not like it, stick around, it will change in the next few minutes. The same is true with the battery compartment on the OliveR. There are days where the battery will fall out when the bottom plate is removed. There are other days where you have to get a hydraulic press to push the battery out of its compartment. So, be thankful for the design that allows for this type of expansion/contraction. I would hate to see one of these mods with a zero tolerance factor shrink down so much that the mod splits from the pressure.

Nice Malkuth!

I think I have an opposite problem as I live in a high plains desert where high humidity is 45% when it's raining. This has happened so slowly I never noticed until my hubby asked if everything is okay with the mod. I think my walnut is shrinking...

Bottoms both sides:

Top both sides:

It's not the magnets as far as I can tell, I can squeeze the top and bottom together to set right and it fires wonderfully as well. Maybe it should sit in my bathroom while I shower? I think it misses Washington state...

Interesting. I wonder if my OliveR (when my run comes up) will find East Anglia, UK the same as my original home of Western Washington state. My parents said it was pretty much the same when they visited me. What run are we up to now? I lost track with some other stuff going on, lol.

Four (I think) is nearing...What run are you in?

hey ernest. I think the stabilized bog will hold up well in terms of expansion/contraction and humidity type shizzle-floozle. It's not going to be the most resilient option for the turbo-classic drop-kick tho. (reasonably strong? . . .. . . . .. . yes.) I squeaked some caps out for XObox; but I'm not recommending that for general consumption (i think xobe is a corporal or something). If you're in love with the stuff, I'm thinking it's a reasonable gamble with richlite caps. (see pics w/ "slate" color richlite)

dibs~ I did try the foil but I don't know at which point the fuse popped. Wasn't popped during my day 1 attempts. So i did replace fuse.
Also noticed I have 2 batteries (AW IMR 650 button top) dented at bottom.

Exhausting wknd with my mom & 3 toddlers having a wknd sleepover. I do the sleepover thing once a month; sometimes more--depending on how much they beg. :) Or I'm just a pushover.

I mentioned to dibster that I probably won't spend any time over this wknd trying to figure out what's wrong.
It's already back in the box.

I got my Dibi:)!!!

Couple of things... first, I think I might have figured out what happened to Scandalex's mod... the fuse? Because... it did it to mine too, and now it won't fire:p.

But first things first.

The box, nice packaging:):

pdib made me a Mundy coil too:)!!! Very neat:)!

Out of the box:

Cottoned up:)

Current box collection (only a couple more coming soon) for Valheli:
IMG_20140502_142644.jpg

Left to right: Billetbox, Bloodwood/Birdseye Woodvil, Bloodwood Woodvil, Bubinga (african rosewood)/Lacewood Phidias, Bigleaf Maple Dibi, Reo Grand, Blingy Bogger Box, VTR, Microstick w/ Spheroid. My computer desk is getting crowded... LOL!

Now... Dibi observations... awsome! I love it:). Definitely the nicest and smoothest looking mod:).

But hit same snag as Scandalex...

The fuse blew? I think. It won't fire anymore... can't find another problem, but noticed this:
IMG_20140502_152202.jpg

Now, the wire is not broken, but it is all twisted up and no longer laying flat like it was before it fired. I can't find another reason for the not firing.

The battery in it is the LP 2500 mah 20a one. The coil in it is the one pdib made. What could go wrong? Pulled off the atomizer, checked it in the meter... 1.0. Looked OK...

Put it on the Provari, E1 error. Hrm. Tested Atomizer, read .8. Hrm. That's not right. Pulled the top off. Tested it again. 1.1. What? Fired up just fine. Well, only 1 possible explanation.... the coil was shorting on the side wall of the atomizer. Pushed it up a mm with tweezers, fired right up on the Provari (thank goodness I have a Provari for a tester:p). USER ERROR, not mod flaw.

Welp, I ordered 2 fuses for backup thankfully, so out came one of my new fuses. Tricky install, but got it in... and the Dibi fired right up.

Observations:
Pros:
1. The mod is BEAUTIFUL. Hands down the best look and finish of all wood mods. Worth paying the big bucks for your own wood to make the mod with.
2. The design is outstanding, both the exterior and the interior. The size/shape is perfect for the human hand, big or small.
3. The function is perfect. I got the upgraded silver contacts. But I would not say it hits harder than the REO Grand with upgraded 24k gold plated contacts. It's roughly the same, but with a much harder button push.
4. Changing juice bottles is a HUGE improvement over any other bottom feeder. You aren't balancing a drippy tube over the mod anywhere.
5. I love the design placement of the contact leaf... it's accessible, and easy to noalox if needed.
6. The top and bottom magnets are exactly the right grip. Very easy to eject the battery if you have thermal runaway, but otherwise stays in place (assuming you didn't screw down the bottom plate).

Cons:
1. The battery rattles. I mean REALLY rattles... like in a tin can. Don't like this, even tho it's fixable by just wrapping thick tape or stuffing around body of your battery. This is using a LG 30a (not true 30a, but that's what it's called) 2500 mah battery. The o-rings don't prevent it. Pdib included 3 different o-ring sizes to accomodate different battery lengths. None of them were a perfect fit, the 2 smallest were too tall, but nothing prevents the side to side rattle. Same problem with all of 6 different 18650 battery brands I tried in it (Samsung, LG, AW, Efest, Panasonic, Orbtronics).
*edited to add- I am wrong about the above. Read later posts:p.

2. The Fuse. User error is easy. Test fire your atomizer on something else before putting it on the Dibi... although the $3 fuse is arguably cheaper than a collapsed 24K gold spring for the Reo:p.

I have a question... what happens if I don't want to be safe and use it without the fuse? Will the mod still fire without that connection there?

So ScandalEx... check your fuse. If it's twisted like mine is above, THAT"S THE PROBLEM, you shorted your atomizer with your coil, and the fuse went off:p.

My fuse was still intact when it wouldn't fire. It popped this morning. I replaced it then put my Dibi back in the box.
