Oh, NOOOOOO! I Turbo'ed my Santos Mahogany OliveR!

I know I joked early in this thread about wanting to see an exploded view, but this is NOT what I had in mind.

The magnets had dislodged some time ago, but I never got around to gluing them back. (Well, I did re-glue one in the top plate a while ago.) This morning, I dropped it from counter height onto a soft carpet. I didn't think much of it until I noticed a crack. Just as my tear hit the floor, the wood separated in my hand :(

Now to dig back and see pdib's CA recommendation so I can put 'er back together. And maybe take the Master's advice about that bottom screw this time.

While I'm at it, I put this scuff mark on it just a couple of days after getting it.

I've never tried polishing CA - is there a secret method? Is it a different CA formula than is normally used for adhesion?

Oh no:(... with the black richlite, I'm surprised to see that the wood still cracked when dropped on the carpet. Haven't dropped mine yet, but I don't think it would crack because I have no vertical grain anywhere on mine. I think swirly burls may be tougher there for that reason?

Well I'm officially on "The List"... and while I have a long time to wait, it gives me a long time to look for the perfect wood. So where besides burlsource.us should I be looking and what should I look out for?

By the look of burlsouce.us's PDIB section the wood needs to be 5 & 7/8" x 2 & 3/16" x 1 & 3/16" or larger, and I read that it should not be stabilized type A only type B (I assume only needed if it's not from burlsource.us)

I'm looking for a heavy pattern, either very swirly with lots of circles

or the exact opposite kind of look with heavy stripes

There is a piece for sale right now that I like the look of, what do you guys think?

Any advice on what to look for and where to look? Also how early is too early to buy the wood and have it sent to Peter?

Thanks in advance for the help/comments. I know you guys (and gals) like to talk about hard wood so I figured this is the place to ask.... :D

Ken

Ken, I'd say rock the tiger stripes man, that will look very nice! If I was in on more runs, and had the money for it, I'd get a block of that and have it crafted up! Talk to Pdib first though, make sure he's good with things before you buy, otherwise you have an expensive wheel chock LOL.

Thank you Megan. After a setback last week that involved the ER and another CT I am progressing much better. For the last 4 days or so I have seen magnificent improvement each day. I saw the surgeon yesterday on my followup and he is pleased with my progress and says I am about 80% healed. Unfortunately he gave me some news I was not prepared for. Due to the extent of damage that he repaired and the fact my abdomen lining is fragile I am under orders not to lift, pull, push, etc. more than 30 pounds for the rest of my life or I could cause very serious damage that could (worst case) be life threatening. Since this precludes me from the physical work I have done most of my life I am in a state of disarray. I can manage my small company but cannot do the part of the physical labor I have been doing so I have hired another employee. We (my wife and I) will have to supplement our income in some fashion since this will not allow sustainability for us and our daughter whom has had a very hard time with her MS and cannot work. Hopefully she will find an employer who understands and can work around her needs. She had a job with Expedia and they were really pleased with her work, but they dropped her when lesions appeared on her spine and she had to be away from work unscheduled for IV treatments. Exasperating all that is the fact she is of age that next year our insurance will not cover her as a dependent. We will figure it all out and prevail, but it is hard when just a year ago everything was roses and all is happening so fast.

I guess the way I see this is, not being able to do the manual labor means you have moee time to devote to running the company. Dont just hire one to replace you. Hire three to keep up with your new found ability to price jobs, win bids, and grow. Hell, then youll need an assistant (daughter) to help you keep up with it all. Yep, thats the way I see it.

put it this way, by the time we get to your turn, there might (MIGHT . . . . . . MIGHT) be an hybrid version, an sx350 version, a dna30 version (all of which would entail different specs for blanks), or I may have changed the design completely (thinking of going invisible . . . . like MoN wants); so . . . .. . . . it's way too early. And, yes, as the peeps with finger on tip of nose put it, PM me for sizes and specs.

Well then I'd like to switch my order to one of the just released 240 Watt, dual 26650 dibi with an end caps made from unobtainium. Will you have one in purple?

I'll wait till Todd's "i like a bit of tinkering for a cracking vape" video comes out. Then that list will hit 2 years and we're all cuffed and stuffed.

Oh - i have been reading a lot of nonsense about CAD ninjas the last few days and i really think you're losing the sense of fun with it all, by which i mean, apart from the usual precise, urgent, need a house now stuff....this is what i do/make with it...

The bulldog is for a friend's daughter's graduation and the dinosaur - well... fun!

That's why I'm on the list for a fourth in run 20 all ready (and may be pming sporadicly for a few more after the video comes out).
