That's one of the primary uses of purple heart wood; inlays on guitars. Not a lot of exposure to UV for most guitars either.
It also carries a very resonate deep bassy sound. My guitar has a mahogany neck with a triple split inlay of ash and then the "wings" (luthier talk for the sides around the neck on a neck through) are purple heart with a figured maple veneered top. It was then finished with a blue dye and sealed, so I cannot attest to the fading/discoloration of the original wood as it was dyed beforehand but I love the look of the grain.
