That's one of the primary uses of purple heart wood; inlays on guitars. Not a lot of exposure to UV for most guitars either.

It also carries a very resonate deep bassy sound. My guitar has a mahogany neck with a triple split inlay of ash and then the "wings" (luthier talk for the sides around the neck on a neck through) are purple heart with a figured maple veneered top. It was then finished with a blue dye and sealed, so I cannot attest to the fading/discoloration of the original wood as it was dyed beforehand but I love the look of the grain.

Also with this post dies my continued input on Purple Heart. :)

Back to regularly scheduled programming folks!!!

If you're curious as to the guitar here is a picture of the front I'll have to find the one of the back.

I just saw a purple heart guitar back... beautiful:).

I found some cocobola chunks you may want to look at... but while I was looking at this cocobolo:
Bowl Turning Blanks | Tropical Exotic Hardwoods

I found THIS (Mexican Kingwood... which is a true rosewood supposedly)... look at THAT purple color... with the cocobolo grain (and presumably scent too!): Mexican Kingwood | Tropical Exotic Hardwoods

The king wood is pretty, but I'm not spending $75 for one mod. Lol.

$75 is less than what a lot of people have spent for lesser dyed blocks in bidding wars on ebay... for one of the best woods in the world. Just saying:).

Your guitar is sick looking! My husband would go nuts (he collects guitars too). He's got a Fender that color, but not with the contrasting neck like that:).

He can buy one whenever he chooses although i don't think they use rosewood anymore as it got expensive. It's a schecter c-1 classic. :)

And I'm aware the wood blocks are more then that potentially, but i think what we pay for a mod(any authentic really not just pdibs) is enough money as it stands so I'm willing to pay for the purple heart($14 or so) but jot the king wood(minimum of $75) however if someone wanted to split or even a few people had blocks they would want off there, I'd be glad to pitch in for a black of the king wood, but I would have any use for the other $55 dollars worth of wood.

You kidding? I'm not letting him see that... he's already got more guitars than I have mods, he doesn't need more, uh uh!

I think if I found plywood thick enough, peter could make it stunning, but the real beauty of these mods isn't the wood, or that peter does them so well, it's that it is exactly what YOU want. He isn't afraid to try something, and in the chance the old doesn't hold up, he will allow you try something else without any repercussions.
Yep, I understand...custom is custom. If it's not yours, then it's not yours:) Plywood ForTheWin!!!
Wait till my run, it's plywood all the way for me. I love the smell of glue in the morning!!!
Honestly, I've been a little shied away with all the ultra drooling, incredible, cosmic, stabilized, 3million year old burls. I almost don't want pictures posted on my turn, cause it really won't be fancy/exotic/unobtainable enough. But it'll be in my hand, so all is great.
I do love all the great pics of everyones mods. The do keep getting really out there
I really just want a fun little sqounker, and I can't wait to have it made out of particle board or something abouts :D
(unless Peter, unearths some more Canary in the wood shed;)
p.s. howdy friends, it's been awhile in lurker/worker land:)

Purple heart seems to be the topic tonight. I had purpleheart/zebra REO and a purple/blue dyed one that some liked and some didn't. Its all about personal taste and only matters if you like and not what others think. Natural Purpleheart can look different. Some more purple than others.
