Ok... on a more serious note... (*sorry pdib, had to get the silly out of my system*)

While we are all waiting for the soon to be posted pix of the *Drumroll* FIRST BATCH...

Can I ask one of the more electronic minded a very unrelated question?

I bought an itaste 134 in a coop here. It didn't work right. That is, it fired, but the dial that controlled the VW didn't work. It never seemed to go higher than the lowest setting when turned.

Well, I found out that because it was bought from a coop and not a shop, nevermind that I paid more for it than I would have on sale at an online shop, I had no warranty. Not the minute I broke open the package. So basically, I spent a lot of time unscrewing it, and found that there was a loose piece of yellow cellophane was floating around the middle of the piece near the circuit board.

I cleaned it all out with alcohol, and removed the yellow cellophane, and it seemed to be working! It was all fixed!! But after a short time using it, I noticed that my finger buzzed every time I pushed the button... uh. So I opened it up again, and slipped the yellow cello between the button and the button switch on the circuit board, figuring that it might be insulation for the button somehow.

When I put it back together again, the thing would not turn OFF. That is, anytime I screw in an atomizer, it's on. The switch still works, if I push it 5x, it will turn the multi colored lights on.

I am not asking if anyone owns an itaste 134 this happened to. What I'd like to know is if anyone has any idea what on a circuit board is keeping the connection closed. Something should be insulated that's not, it's probably where the yellow cello belongs. Should I be looking for a ground? What are the reasons such a thing can happen, and how can they be fixed? Thanks for any help!!!

Sounds like you're on the right track, Glass. What might be hard to figure out is where that thing was supposed to be. If the circuit board is inline with the positive leg of the circuit, and your fire button is metal, then, yeah, it would need to be insulated, I imagine. I don't know if there is insulation provided within the circuit board, or under the metal face of the button . .. . but I kin'a doubt it. On my VAMO, the fire button was soft rubber, so it was insulated. If your button has a rubber sleeve/face, then that bit o' junk might have a different home.

You know, I bet you'd get a much better answer in the Modding Forum, Battery Subforum. (unless Mundy comes by .. . . he pretty smart like 'at)

Battery Mods

ADDIT: now that I think about it, the board would have to be in the positive string on a tube mod.

Ok... I didn't know where to put it on the modding forum... but I'll take it apart and try to get pix first... describing it is so much harder than showing it and hopefully someone will see something wrong and say... THAT!!!

Other thing I did... which was probably not so smart, was load it up with Permatex Dielectric Tuneup grease... I THOUGHT that would protect and insulate... maybe it doesn't?? Should I clean it off again with 99% alcohol??

(note: I know NOTHING, ok, less than NOTHING, about electrical stuff...)

What kinda buzz are we talking about? I have a working 134 that makes a faint buzzing sound when it's fired and I have heard other people mention this as well. It's not loud but definitely there.

Maybe that piece of cellophane just isn't supposed to be in there at all.
(I've never opened mine up so I'm not really an expert)
If you don't find anyone else who can answer your questions I can open mine up and take some pictures for you.

Glassgal - I've never been inside an i-taste so I'm not familiar with your particular device but I've taken apart and repaired enough electronics to have a pretty good idea... The "yellow cellophane" is most like a piece of kapton tape. It could have been placed there to hold something in place, insulate one part from another (most likely a part on the pcb from the case) or simply fell into the case by mistake while it was being assembled.

Buzzing is most likely the inductor coil... A soft, high pitched whine?

The reason the mod is firing constantly is (most likely) because the extra thickness of the kapton is depressing the internal tac switch under the button.

My advise, until you can get it into hands of someone competent to do a repair, take it apart and disconnect the battery. If you don't want to do that, at the very least stop using it. If mistreated, the internal lipo battery pack can be dangerous. If the circuit board is malfunctioning, you don't know what it's doing to the battery.

Ok... on a more serious note... (*sorry pdib, had to get the silly out of my system*)

. . . . . and here are some photos of the mods I've made . . . . .

Wow Pdib! Phenomenal looking mod you created here. I wish you much success and the sanity needed to produce these beauties for the masses. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread, and hopefully there are a few being made of non-stabilized/dyed wood. While those are pretty cool, I really dig the natural wood look the most. Quilted Sapele, Bird's Eye Maple, some figured Black Walnut,.... oh yeah.

Goodluck man!
