But how would you make one:)? Actually... I wonder how they make that ceramic?!
Here's how Rolex makes the ceramic bezel for the SS GMT

"A technological and aesthetic feat, the new Cerachrom bezel insert is obtained by a unique process developed by Rolex which allows this ceramic component with two distinct colours to be produced as a single piece. It echoes the traditional two-colour bezel of the original GMT-Master and GMT-Master II models. The black colour is achieved via a process that consists of impregnating half the insert with a controlled quantity of a solution of chemical compounds. The solution is added before the sintering stage, during which the ceramic acquires its final properties. In the course of this firing, the ceramic densifies and the added compounds react together as well as with the basic material of the blue Cerachrom insert to create the final black colour. This original and innovative process requires mastery of high-temperature heat treatments to closely control the deformation of the ceramic. The two-colour Cerachrom bezel insert obtained via this process presents a clear cut-off between the two colours. By virtue of being manufactured in a single piece, the insert acquires homogeneous mechanical properties which respond to the quality and reliability demanded of a Rolex product. This process has a patent pending."

Oh... we don't need to do all that... we want the one that can almost withstand a thermonuclear reaction, or at least be bulletproof (link I gave you) :p.

I saw a pretty nifty thing that just made all watch material obsolete tho...

Holy subject slide Batman!

Went off to look for my back azz clock and come back to exploding ceramic atty doughnuts on a provari?

Didn't find the clock, but I did find 24 channels of highly accurate data acquisition I used on a former project a couple of years ago.
Been thinking of revisiting the voltage drop thing since I had a dud coil of magic when I did the first run.
Now I can do it all at once with digital accuracy!

I don't get it... he's using that as a heating coil...?? But it can't touch the sides, so why a disk shape?

Wouldn't ceramic make a better wick? if it DOES conduct electricity... wouldn't it replace both wick and coil completely?

And... he's not shipping due to the Chinese holidays.. but... the US has the technology to do this far better than the Chinese?? So many questions....

No, but it did fall out of this corner of the basement

i knew this "yes dear - i'll tidy it up for the photos" would end badly for you!

I use a cunning ruse instead - 'are you sure none of this will be useful? for fixing your stuff dear? that eVic is not immortal yanno?'

i think you might be pleasantly surprised Dibby - after all, he'd not use the same gear as me if it were total guff.

One battery a day - no cleaning and whining from ......s at work about the clouds - it's a winner! I have yet to drop it, not that i am protective, just not happened yet :O

T

That's my worst fear. I tried to keep it in the truck at work and use a Reo tank on the job site, but I find myself irresistibly carrying my OliveR into harms way more and more. It calls to me from the truck-----I feel nice in your hand......you miss my vape......take me with you.

Geez, I just realized what you cretans are going to convolute that into!.

damn. i actually feel like i'm threadjacking...

stabilized box elder and stabilized redwood burl are in my current arsenal.

just to be safe, any known problems with these, Mr. D?

ETA: pretty sure both are type A

I've done a few with box elder. It didn't prove strong enough for caps; but was fine for body. (may have to do with the type/quality of stabilization too; but I don't know)

Redwood, I'd want to see. Can't say. Since it's burl, it may be ok; but we just learned that stabilizing doesn't compensate for the regular grain/growth of Redwood (the healthy, up in the trunk stuff).
