I bought mine because I can see the quality of mr bee's work, I see skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail and I see perfection in the end result. the end result is beautiful. perfection takes time and patience and not everyone can do this. look at most other small modders mods and you'll see what I mean, most others look like someone made it in there garage, especially most wooden box mod bottom feeders. I'm not saying there horrible at all, but this one is just way more precision and several notches above most others I've seen, this one really has exquisite craftsmanship which is something I really appreciate. I looked at it and said this would take at least 5-6 hours labor from a skilled craftsman and I thought his price was worth the end result because of that. hell it would probably take me twice as long to build the first one like this so if I'm saving 10-12 hours labor it then becomes a huge bargain![]()
how well it worked wasn't much of a concern for me, I could mod it if need be, I could build it into a dna mod if I wasn't happy with it as a mech. functionality was low on my concern list. I mod things all the time when they don't perform the way I want them too.
I also really appreciate the design, the way it is as minimalist as it can be, no space is wasted. most things I look at and see stuff I don't like and thing ah, for that money I'd build it better myself, but not this one. I saw something that was really as good as I would want it to be even if I did build it myself, plus I could still choose my own block of wood for a truly custom personalized mod, hell I just had to buy this thing, it's awesome
well today I used only the dibi and my lower plate problems are solved. no more missfiring but it still wasn't really as consistent and hard hitting on every hit, I was still getting somewhat hit and miss performance and it was still a little finicky depending on how I pressed the button. well I figured out how to get it to hit consistently and to do that I have to push the button sideways. but don't forget I am running a .4 ohm setup here, on an average .8 and up setup this probably wouldn't be as noticeable or even an issue. what I think is happening is when I push the button straight down the current is flowing mostly through the spring alone and the spring doesn't flow enough to get full amperage. a straight button hit and it hit like a .8 ohm coil, press the button sideways and it hit like a .4 ohm coil. there is a significant difference between the 2. for this thing to hit hard and consistent the button needs work, should be a minor fix. the plate you did with the tight hole looks effective and simple enough, not to confident as to long term durability of that though, I'm leaning more towards a flex braid or a flat spring or just a better spring maybe but it def needs something. I'm going to search around for a heavier gauge spring as a quick fix for now. I'd love to get it to hit as hard and consistent and reliable as my poldiac, if I can do that then I'd probably be happy leaving it as a mech I think![]()
Y'all are making me wish I had one too! (a fancy one, I mean)
Speaking of which . .. .
So, what if I were to tell you all that #0002 may become available? I say "may" because I'm considering keeping it for myself. The friend who bought it, as a beta tester, finds he isn't using it much. Rather than have it sit on the shelf, he wants to sell it back to me and let me do with it as I please. (He's very considerate, nay downright nice, he is.) He's already sent it to me.
The mod's been used in a humid environment. The copper has a full patina. It looks like it could've been found in a trunk in Grampa's attic. (I mean that in a good way, if anyone's into old/antique looking gear, this one fits the bill.) I could spruce it up. Heck, I could refinish it. So, it's kin'a special in that, if one were to desire it as a functional collector's item, they could choose to; take it as it is (looking very much like a piece of history), or have me do a minor refinishing (get it all shiny n' stuff), or have me completely refinish it. If I did that, it would/could be a Natural Seward Park Maple Burl (looking more like the others I've made). I have it, I've examined it, fired it, it works great.
Here's a pic from when I first made it. click on this pic and it'll take you to the gallery for this unit. (I'll post a slideshow link below too).

If anyone's interested, give me a holler.
(btw: this one I'll sign and # if requested)

1) it can, but you'll need lots of noalox to reduce sparking after a while
2) it's smallish. Less than 1/16, at least.
3) comes with a cap to seal your extra bottle

Wow... you know, THAT MOD was the one that made me want a Dibi actually. I know it's Ukeman's. I also know he didn't vape it much, based on his shortage of posting and content. I'd go so far as to guess that ukeman probably is cutting back on vaping altogether and is close to that elusive 'quit vaping' state that I see some people get to... since I'm guessing anyway, I suspect within a year he'll have to choose between going back to vaping or smoking again, and will be back for another mod. This of course depends on his original level of addiction, I know I'll be vaping or smoking the rest of my life, and I haven't talked to anyone who has successfully completely quit vaping because vaping itself is still relatively new (and I'm even newer to vaping). If any of these wild guesses are close to the mark, Grats Uke.
A week ago, I'd have been all over that. But besides the fact that Mundy called it first, I'm pretty sure I was too slow seeing this to be top of pdib's spammed pm list. Started watching the movie 'Babbel'... am bored silly in the middle, and thought I'd check the thread to see I'd already missed out... O.O. Some things are meant to be I guess (or in this case, not)
Mine's getting made this month anyway, and I've been waiting what feels like a long long time for it, so I'm not tooooo sad I missed out, if a bit wistful. Grats Mundy, that really is one beautiful mod... and I hope by the beginning of next month, I won't be totally jealous of you, because I'll be fondling my own dibi.
Wow, that's an awful lot of very specific infomation .. . . considering that most of it is wrong.
