Yummy........
So wood... Is wenge a good candidate?
I'm thinking non-stabalized so it retains some flexibility. What are your thoughts pdib? I'm still a ways out for my #2 but I am searching for that bestest, strongest, durable, and hearty wood.
Can be difficult to work with hand and machine tools. Blunts tool edges. Sands unevenly due to differences in density between light and dark areas. Very splintery—care must be used when handling unfinished wood with bare hands, as splinters have an increased risk of infection. Very large pores can be difficult to fill if a perfectly smooth/level finish is desired.
If he wants a second opinion.
Then tell him no, twice.
OMG!!! That pix totally sux... now i HAVE to have some ice cream. What were you thinking?

This pic works for the day.
Solemn memorial day all... Drink a beer for my boys who won't ever get another one.

Wenge, I gather, is . . . . . . well, look at this . . .
main concern is that splintery-ness. Might make for weakness.
We don't necessarily want "hard". What we mostly want is resilient.
ETA: keep an eye out for that Australian Ringed Gidgee over at burlsource. If you like the way it looks (and it seems, from the pics I've seen, there's quite a bit of variation from one block to the next), that stuff seems ideal. I think I mentioned, Mark sent me a sample piece, and I really like it's properties.
Also, Mark mentioned that he is getting one more batch of Bog Oak in (or has done and is now getting it stabilized). Some black, some grey, he says. Bear in mind, I don't think that's the best candidate for a mod; but it seems that the nutcakes who are in love with that stuff are beyond reason in their enamoured state.
ADDIT SUMMORE: re: Wenge, a little bird just told me . . . .
