... if it wasn't for a personal e-mail I received, I would have missed it!
Yes, thank you CASAA for the personal email! I've forwarded it to friends and family, along with the following introduction (sharing here in case anyone else would like to copy and paste it into a forward):
Dear Family and Friends,
A few weeks ago I wrote to ask you to register a "No" vote regarding pending legislation concerning an exorbitant taxing scheme (cloaked behind special-education funding) geared toward e-cigarette users. At present, S. 1403 is stuck in committee (thanks to the negative response it garnered), and it appears unlikely that the bill will move any further this year. To each of you that took the time to do register a "No" vote, I send a huge, heart-felt thank you.
Today, I'm hoping you will take the time to sign an important petition that's been put before the White House: a request that President Obama's Administration acknowledge e-cigs as a viable, safer alternative to cigarettes. The "short story" of the situation is that advocates for and consumers of e-cig products are up against Big Pharmacy and Big
tobacco -- both of which heavily lobby for their own monetary interests.
It is paramount that our petition collect 5,000 signatures by October 27th. If we cannot obtain the necessary signatures, we will be able to re-petition, but the next time around the threshold will be 25,000 signatures. Obviously, 5,000 signatures is a much more manageable hurdle. It's possible little will happen, even if we amass the 5,000 signatures in time, but we have to try. For this reason, we are hoping friends and family who are glad we've finally managed to break away from the cancer-causing agents of cigarettes will help out once again.
I'm forwarding an email I received from CASAA (The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association). This letter more fully explains the situation.
The last thing I want to do is to annoy anyone with email solicitations, so I apologize for asking for your help regarding e-cigs yet again. Please know I certainly wouldn't do so if I didn't completely believe e-cigs have the potential to save millions of lives.
Please feel free to forward this to anyone you think might be interested in signing the petition. Thank you for all your support.
