State's Rights allows a state to enact laws more stringent than federal laws. "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively" [excerpted from the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States]
The beauty of this is that the sword cuts both ways. Travel is (allegedly) unrestricted between states. V4L can pick up and toss their operation across the state lines any time they want, and for any or no reason at all, and Illinois can "go fish", losing those sales taxes, employment taxes, property taxes, etc etc.
When federal laws (largely unlawfully/unconstitutionally) are enacted, addressing the limitation is far more difficult. So let someone elses' state be stupid. Save your ire for when your state gets stupid - then fight it tooth and nail. The only real support we can offer residents of a state not our own is moral and/or financial.
