All very good suggestions, ego C twists with Evods and or Viva Nova's, Evods I believe are a bottom coil and therefore a cooler vape, Viva Nova's are top coil and therefore a warmer vape, I love my Kanger T2's (top coil). I think you probably have already done a fair bit of research and what may be holding you back is the fear that vaping won't help you quit or live up to your expectations. I know I was worried about that after getting all hyped up about cigalikes several years ago and not really liking them. However the Ego c twists and Viva Nova's and T2's are imo so much better. Vaping is different than smoking, I smoked and vaped at first but it sure reduced my 2 pad a day habit down to about 5 a day and now two months and no cigarettes. My advice is pick a kit and jump in, I started at 24mg juice and am now vaping 18mg juice, just start out with sample sizes of juice until you figure out your preferences and drink plenty of water when you are vaping as it's dehydrating. Oh...by the way welcome to the forum and good luck!

Welcome to ECF and vaping! I am new here also. My first kit is in the mail to me. I spent 3 weeks on these ECF forums reading, reading, and reading. I thought I wanted something that looked like a cigarette and tasted like a Marlboro. I am a 2 pad smoker for 45 years. I decided on 2 Spinners at 1300mah, and Evod and a ProTank. The ProTank is a little more expensive ($16-20) but it is glass and I can use any juice flavor in it and it will not crack (cinnamon and citrus tend to crack plastic tanks). There are threads on this, do a search. Baditude and Ocelot, members here, have written blogs on this and explain lots of things. Another thing I learned. If you have a local vape shop, they will let you try their juices. Do it. Flavors I thought I would hate (menthol) I actually liked better than ones I thought I would like. The MyVaporStore.com is a good place and it is a good deal, but I could not come up with a combination to complete the kit. They are pretty much out of stock on the 1300 Spinners. Email them with what you want and they will let you know if it is in stock and have them suggest an alternative. They responded to me within 24 hours. I ended up ordering from someone else just so I could get started.

Good luck to you. And read the section here on how to vape. You do it different than smoking. That's why I mentioned visiting a shop near you to try it out.

Welcome to ecf! Everyone has given you good advice on equipment and as I have never liked menthol I can't comment on that but I will warn you, don't go overboard on your first order of e juice. I got all exited and ordered like 10 bottles of e juice and ended up only liking about 4 of them. Also be careful when ordering carto/clearos, make sure they will work on the batteries you buy, I bought 5 clearos that I thought would work on my batteries only to find out when I got them that they don't. All totaled I have probably wasted about $25. I don't want you to make the same mistakes.
If in doubt, look at what you think you want to buy, then paste the links here and find out from the very helpful folks here if they are compatible. Everyone here loves to help so make use of this great resource.

My eyes actually welled up from all the support I've gotten already with just one post. I feel all emotions probably 10x more intensely than most average ppl, so I hated to sound so desperate/frustrated, but this is *truly* very important to me. You all knew that & responded in kind, and I cant thank u enough!

I'm scared for my health. I'm only 32, the doc thinks I may have emphysema so I have to go get some crazy lung tests now. When I had my appt Wed, I walked a whopping THREE DOORS down the hall and was short of breath. The nurse took my vitals & asked why my heart was pounding & was I really THAT nervous? No, just a smoker.

***BIG NEWS FOR ME!***
A good friend of mine from LA ordered me an E-Go twist on his & many others opinions since I said I couldnt order mine for another month at least due to funding. I'm so hopeful and excited! I was really starting to lose hope, I mean it you guys, you have all helped restore my faith. :toast:
There are so many questions I have for all of you, so I'll just get right to that now ...

klynnn~I have gone back to wanting that kit abt a dozen times, it's gorgeous and pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, I'm glad my post was able to convey that! Whats a Viva Nova and Evod? Will my Ego Twist need either or maybe come with one? I'm a lil confused abt menthol drops... is that just Menthol e-liquid/juice? I didnt think u could choose how much flavor was in your juice, nicotine yes. If its not an e-juice, do vape stores sell it & if not, where can I buy?

unfettered~Why do I need 5 clearomizers?

JonnyPrice~I was under the impression that 95% of e-juices had a max of 18, so hearing abt the 24 was shocking. 36 made me fall outta my chair! When u say "perfumey" do u mean the smell is strong? I thought the vaping had no smell? Menthol can vary so much in flavor, it can be "basic" menthol (Newports) or wintery (marloboro smooth) or taste like mouthwash, etc. What would u compare xtreme ice to, if u can?

Aglet~Can u add your own?? Oh yesh, lol, I definitely have read abt all the various personal preferences everyone has for particular juices, its an opinion after all ... I take FULL responsibility for asking abt recommendations! :D

Natey~I was the exact same way. Because I feel things so strongly I figured I would have to try as hard as humanly possible to get the experience to be like analogs, figured I could slowly work my way up to something decent. I suspect that the hardest part for me (and the reason Ive never been successful) is due to the ritual of it all. Its automatic to reach for a smoke when you're finished eating & whatnot. After all the horrible "airy" models, I figured I needed to be a LOT more flexible. Plus, all the ppl here always say they wish they had started w/somethin bigger/customizable. I think I want it badly enough to deal with the radical change in weight/size. *crosses fingers*

cocacola~How could I have forgotten YOUTUBE?! Thanks! ;)

chellemmm~Cute dawg! What would u compare those flavors to if u had to & what did u smoke before?

lctrc~What exactly *is* SNUS? I always thought it was very similar to chewing tobacco. THANK YOU for sharing that article, do u add that stuff to the liquid or ...? Im thinking thats like a last ditch effort if this doesnt work out, right?

midgyp~What does 50/50 mean? I never know (and I doubt anyone else does) when they are ready FOR REAL. I always thought I was ready, every time! Ex smokers have told me in the past that they quit when they "had enough of it" so Ill know when that time comes. (???) I've BEEN sick of it! lol If this is any indication of my commitment level ... I can tell u that, regardless of the fact that I basically dont feel or taste ANYTHING AT ALL, I still reach for this stupid Blue disposable every time I want a smoke. I'm trying so hard that I actually FORCE IT!

Billbeckusa~Lemme ask u ... when u start off w/a higher level of nic (24 or 36, whichever) is that just something you do *in the beginning* to make things go more smoothly, but over time u need/want less nicotine? Ive always wondered why ppl chain vape, arent they getting SATISFIED enough? I would hate to always be chasing that "good feeling" that never seems to be good enough to put the darn thing down, I'd feel like a junkie.

Notorious JDP~ That is the BEST advice u could have given this poor CLUMSY GIRL who drops and breaks EVERYTHING in the galaxy, I had not even considered that the clearomizers might break when I (undoubtedly!) drop them! Kudos! Does adding menthol create a better throat hit? Which fruits would u recommend to go well with the menthol?

muskydawg~Whats a cold shot? Im not sure if this matters, but part of the reason I dont like disposables is they dont get warm, so you're most DEFINITELY not going to trick yourself outta not smoking! So if it has anything to do w/real cold, I might pass. I've been uber frustrated w/all the dozens of smoke shops by me that only carry crappy/cheap/disposable vaporizers ... I hadnt thought vaping was big enough yet to constitute a VAPOR STORE all on its own! Surely a big city like CHICAGO would have one somewhere, Ill check!

vape-addict~Virginia fire cured ... a store/business? Flavor? Do u still need the tank?

ShariR~ Ohhh yesh, I read it! I didnt need anyone to tell me I was doing it wrong, it was awful! But even knowing what I know, I STILL cant get it to taste good!

SASmith~VERY important advice, that. I had just explained (^^up there a bit) that after inhaling "cold" disposables, I learned something new: I dont like to inhale cold, LOL! Therefor, knowing that coil placement effects the temp is crucial knowledge!

*le sigh*

I'm going to try to order the sample packs to start off, search for a vape shop, wait impatiently for the ego to arrive, and worst of all ... I have to try to help my husband quit if I quit, that is sabotage right there! But thats an ENTIRELY different thread alltogether!! I know I'm not the only married "wanna-be" vaper that faced this issue, I'm pretty sure there are threads just for that issue specifically.

I don't even know what to say, other than THANK YOU all, so very freakin' much. :vapor: U guys have definitely saved peoples lives with your support, no doubt ... and possibly my own.

By perfume, I mean it simply smells faintly of alcohol. Many flavored liquids have this issue due to the flavorings used.

I can't really describe Extreme Ice. I can't get past that perfume taste to use it for long. Mt. Baker's Menthol is just a strong menthol. It tastes like I'm sucking on a Halls all the time, but I enjoy that flavor.

Dear Manical, I'm sure you will be happy with your ego-twist, I love mine. Trust me....after smoking for 40 years and trying every known quit smoking aid..patches...drugs....gum....cold turkey.... disposable ecigs......acupuncture and hypnosis my little ego c twists and kanger T2's & Viva Novas have done the trick. I didn't quit all smoking immediately, I tapered off the smokes and onto the vaping over a least a week. As a two pack a day smoker (fairly strong Canadian Cigs), I started at 24mg as I was told you don't absorb as much of the nicotine from vaping as you do from a cigarette, what you start at will probably depend on how many cigarettes you smoke a day you may be happy with a lower nic. You can do this, it might take a little while to find what works well for you nic flavors, warm vape, cool vape, etc, but stick with it and you will succeed. If you get discouraged just come to the forum we are all a mutual support group, I spend a little time here every day and it keeps me committed and off of cigarettes.

Trying to hit on a lot of things at once here...

Cheap equipment (even if it's a backup, since you have a Twist on the way which is better than anything I have or want at the moment):

$20.04 EGO-EVOD 6-in-1 Rechargeable 900mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - double e-cigarette / black / 2.6

Having backup everything is good in case your primary equipment goes down - I'd say this is a good deal to get you set for a long time, equipment wise - use your twist as a primary but have this stuff to use if your main battery dies. I don't use the variable stuff and I've been surviving for 2 1/2 weeks just fine.

The tanks that hold the liquid (or "juice") on top are the Evods, the bottom is a standard Ego battery (as opposed to vv or "variable voltage" batteries like the twist) - other people say the twist is a lot better but for me the basic is working great and I'm a quantity-over-quality guy so I have a bunch of cheapo stuff.

Cheap juice - Mt. Baker Vapor does it for me - I'm really liking my Orange Ice as far as a menthol flavor, heavy on the menthol but light on the orange...they have a bunch of different kinds, but you should probably stay away from citrus flavors as they might break the cheaper plastic tanks...can't speak of the Extreme Ice from experience, but if it's like what I've got it should be good. Very strong on the straight menthol like a Newport, not so much a nuanced minty flavor like a Marlboro Green or Blue and stronger than a Camel Crush (the only menthol analogs I have enough experience to comment on).

Hope this, and all the other good advice here, helps - good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Hopefully your friend got you a kit so you can use it without buying any other equipment right away. The glass tanks can break but they are necessary if you want to try juices that have cinnamon or citrus flavors. The Evod and T3 are great but they are plastic. There are several posts about "tank cracking juices" on ECF. ECF is huge. If you want to know about the juices and flavors and vendors go to the e-liquid forum. You can read reviews and descriptions of all kinds of juices from all kinds of vendors there.

When you get your Twist, post here again and list what you received from the packing slip. Then people will be able to help you and be more specific with their advice. You are going to do great. I can tell you are motivated. Remember read, read and read some more. And watch those Youtube videos.

There are some great cigarette like options out there. I started on them. It didn't take long at all to upgrade. I personally wish I had skipped a few steps and just gone to Fasttech and got me a Vamo. Really good prices there. I loved, loved, loved menthol too. I get my menthol crystals from Wizard Labs and mix them my self. I mix mine half and half with Everclear. I like strong menthol. I also got some Koolada from Perfumers Apprentice which adds the KOOL hit without adding taste. I like it a lot.

As far as giving up cigs.... I too tried so many things and was never successful. Until now. I just started vaping and kept smoking too. Kept cutting down on the cigs and increasing my vaping and after a good while it just got to the point where I like the vaping so much better, I just quit. I had cut all the way down to 1 a day and it got to the point where I dreaded that one. I make it sound easy but I am being honest with you. I tried all the stuff you did, many times, but this is the first time I felt like I was gonna be smokefree. I'm still kind of amazed that it actually worked. I hope it works for you too. And if you do have any questions or problems or just need some support, their is always someone here. Nice to have somewhere to go (this forum) when you are saying good-bye to an old friend. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum. :vapor:

There are a lot of questions bundled up here. I like your "ask away" attitude. I shoulda asked more questions in the beginning instead of jumping in head first with no knowledge. I might've saved some money. Anyways, as for my part, menthol does provide a stronger throat hit and since I don't really recommend too many specific juices out of fear of backlash I'd say try your favorite fruit. I do want to say my favorite flavor is Mt Baker Vapors Thug Juice. It's a watermelony, grapey, menthol concoction.

Glad your friend came through for you. Just don't give up. You'll learn more everyday and soon you'll the one giving advice to the newbies. And keep us posted.

Hi Maniac, glad to see you post. There is a lot to learn but you will pick it up very quickly and any questions you have will be answered in a flash. There are people on here from all over the world day and night. The site is amazing. Here is a video on the vivi nova. It has changeable heads inside that can be replaced or rewicked- makes them quite cheap in the long run.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=k6_b-uUKVJg#at=71 You will love the twist, just stick with it.

The evods are similar to the nova but they have a coil that is in the bottom and gives a bit cooler vape. It's always good to try a couple to see which you like better. Pure Menthol drops can be purchased separately as a flavoring. It is very strong and only a drop or two is needed but any juice can be be turned into a menthol. There is also a diy forum section to check out once you get more involved. Perfumers Apprentice - Menthol Liquid **

Hi, I was a 23 yr menthol smoker myself and I believe menthol takes a grip on you similar to the way nicotine does. My juice selection at home consists of menthol and fruit/menthol mixes as well as a few dessert flavors that I enjoy every now and then. It helps to have a local store nearby that will let you sample juice, although there are excellent vendors online that may have better prices/selection with the disadvantage of having to buy before you try and waiting on the mailman so order well before you run out. I'm currently waiting on a large order of juice from Mt Baker Vapor...cheap, good and fast shipping. Ordered Thursday, here on Saturday....they are in Washington State and I am in Florida!

Goodluck, welcome to the forums. Plenty of support here that may be crucial to your journey away from the stinkies and into the wonderful world of vaping.

Welcome to ECF ...

My first week was very hard, but I found if I use a high nicotine juice and vaped the crap out of it throughout the day, I didn't want a cigarette.

Also want to thank you for sharing ... I am EXACTLY like you ... I have done so much research my first couple of weeks, I feel like my head is spinning ...

My first e-cig, I didn't opt for a starter kit, it was a eGo T2 and a Kanger t3 and a couple of cheap carto tanks my friend gave me.

Glad I was able to try both and me personally, I enjoy tobacco flavors in bottom coil clearomizers ... Kanger EVOD and Kanger T3S (T3S is supposed be a much improved T3, but haven't tried it yet) ... I have found those to be very low maintenance

Good luck ... and if you feel like you are going to smoke, vape your e-cig non-stop for a couple of minutes, I guarantee you wont want a cigarette afterward...

Good luck

Yay answers!

That kit posted ... the EGO one? With the little black case that says "EGO" on it? Thats the ONLY non-cigalike I've ever held in my life. Any smoke shop that carries vape schtuffs has this as their only kit. I had no idea wth it was, so I would always ask the retailer if they could order the Ego Twist instead. I figured if they could order *that* one from Ego, surely they could get the twist. I couldnt chance not knowing. Plus, its always $50 for EXACTLY what you see there, minus the second identical backup!

So, why is my Twist better than that one, what maketh that so? :vapor:I'm wondering now abt the Twist I'm waiting for and the coil placement on it (high? low?) ... do they *always* come with the coil in the same place or do you place it yourself (seeing as you're actually putting it together yourself, right?) ? All of these guys have that manual button that allows you to pull in a bigger hit? VariVoltage is one of the main reasons he chose that one, apparently.

Ohhhh yeeeah, I ask a gazillion questions abt *everything* I purchase!! I dont make a lot of money even when I am employed, so my money is very carefully planned out so as to maximize the enjoyment I get out of my purchases. I dont get to buy many nice things for myself, heck, I still have some of the same clothes/footwear from when I was 14! lol

That is CRAZY abt the juice flavors actually damaging the tanks! I'll definitely check that out!

I did go to YOUTUBE ... but I wasnt able to find anything with what I put into the search engine. I tried doing the search for Jim Greene as was recommended, I cant find the Greene that does vapor videos! When I search for vaporizers I get many many results for MARAJUANA vaporizers or the really big machine vaporizers. I looked for a few, then gave up. I figured I had to come back here & figure out a better way to search.

I still cant believe this site! The people are just ... unbelievable. When I came back last night & didnt see my thread on the first page, the first thing I thought was "awww, no one replied!" Then I found it and I was blown away by the number of replies! I thought you guys probably see threads like this CONSTANTLY and were tired of posting the same advice multiple times. I admit, I have read quite a few advice threads myself, but no poster has ever had exactly the same questions/concerns/situation/experiences as I, so I selfishly wanted advice specifically tailored to *me*. Hey, I couldnt chance it! ;)

Should I order my sampler(s) NOW so that I actually have something to vape when it gets here? LOL, that might sound like a ridiculous question but I remembered someone a few pages back advising me not to worry abt the juice right now. I didnt know how long I shouldnt worry, hahah!

Yes, buy your juice now.

Coils are in your clearomizer/tank/atomizer, so it'll depend on what device you have. This part is separate from the actual battery. The eGo twist is a type of battery. It has variable voltage to let you adjust the amount of power sent to your delivry device (clearomizer, etc...).

When you go to you tube out specific names of items or put e cig after everything...or I found using google and putting your search in there followed by you tube gets pretty good results.
