OK, so.....

this is the basics of what we have unless there are strenuous objections from those who haven't had a chance to chime in yet.


what we want
1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests and the year –end grand prize drawing. Eligible threads will started in the new vets' forum prior to turning, either by us or a sponsoring vet.
The welcome thread request comes through PVT, in the form of 1 post minimum in PVT. Threads must be started prior to turning and cannot be self-started.

2. Avatar parties: the welcome threads of those who schedule avatar parties in advance and attend them are eligible for entry into a bonus drawing at the end of the year. The party can be rescheduled from the forum default time without penalty. However, the new vet MUST be present at the time of their turning to be eligible for the bonus drawing.

(in practice this means that threads marked -- are eligible for the GP drawing, only ++ (or threads are eligible for the bonus drawing)

(if joker can't add a bonus drawing, then a bonus entry into the GP drawing would be the second choice option).

atty - welcome thread subject seems to be taken care of - look at ces' summary - that's what we voted for .....
btw i expanded ces' summary a bit. i know we had agreed that a welcome thread could be started by a sponsoring vet. and that's the way jj handles it atm. ''letting us know about the intention'' was added and could be subject to more discussion.

morri - our standard crew is you, whis, atty, nat, tweety, catt, ces, starry, fran, myself and usually amandamarie but because of her mom's health she has not been with us much.

Reread the new entries and have but three comments (we discussed it briefly earlier).

1) We don't send PMs to all the vets anymore, as it is just not practical, so those who do not get an invite from us are at a disadvantage. If they self-report after the fact (and their join date is 2011), are they eligible for a welcome thread and qualify for a monthly contest--no time frame restrictions? I say yes.

2) Do we offer a 30-day grace period for latecomers who have not been sent a PM (as Joker suggested) to allow for full eligibility--monthly and end-of year contests? Of course, they can't possibly qualify for Avi parties as they have already turned. I say yes, but if others disagree, I understand--that may cause issues with those that had been denied in the past.

3) One more clarifications for the avi parties/turnings--I do not want to give them too much leeway as that will cause the problems Atty had mentioned. Since it's a true bonus, they can follow the ECF time or choose their own time, but once they do, they really have to stick to it. We can allow one change, if things are mutually agreed upon, but we do not have to do it.

Also, for the "middle of the night" turnings, we don't need to be present. If the new vet wants to stick to his 3 AM turning, he must agree to post before and after (within, say, 30 min either way) to qualify and be made aware that he may be all alone for the event--we'll provide the fireworks and congrats before and after, of course, but the Commiittee members cannot be compelled to stay up till 3 AM to assist with the turning...

Is JJ part of this committee, Yes or No ? As in, the one I am in that is supposed to help figure out the current problems.

FYI I don't know how I became "coordinator" I'm just one cantankerous voice. My response to jj's post this morning is:

Objection! Badgering! The witness has answered the question counselor. (It was a yes, IMO she gets a vote).

However, I didn't form this committee. Nor am I it's official coordinator.

So I don't know how to really answer your question on members. I suppose I got myself (and you) in trouble earlier when I said "you're on the committee" after one of your posts. However, I think this is a group thing where we are trying to resolve problems and your "fresh perspective" was valuable in helping our discussion. My point was that we need enough input to solve the problems, so I "moved" that you are "in" if you want to help.

That probably came off as a "coordinator" but wasn't intended to be such. It was just my (one participant's) opinion.

we never have sent pms to all of the vets - in any given month you have hundreds turning. catt always applied certain criteria to whittle down the list. we have visibility - our thread in general, j0ker's in contests, and word of mouth - sort of.

as far as i'm concerned, for the rest of this year, my answer to 1 and 2. is a resounding no.

as to your last paragraph - i had nightmares over that scenario ..... with being flexible on turning times that problem should never arise .....

no problem with 3. except it might also be a suggestion of a more convenient time coming from us.

tweety, seriously, we had quite a few people find us on their own. are you gonna start all those threads for whoever missed out? and what's the point after the fact?
our basic requirement is ''prior.'' if the contest is not inclusive enough after the first-year run it can be changed in 2013.

New rules go into effect on July 1st. What's in the past is in the past. The changes are not that drastic.

We tried for 6 months, tweaked the rules that didn't work, period.

This is only a contest, mind you. All we're offering is a chance to be entered into a drawing, mind you. And we are all adults here, I hope.
