1) It's OK for any vet to open any prevet's welcome thread, but it has to be in the New Vets welcoming section of the VIP--we don't want to look all over the place for those threads.

2) The prevet or the prevet's sponsoring vet have to introduce themselves in the PVT--briefly, if they are shy. Nobody needs to write an essay, but everyone is required to say" hi my name is so and so and I'm going to be a vet soon." We can take it from there. This way we will know that the person is eligible for the contest. This will also provide us an opportunity to chat them up and offer an avatar party, with or without a theme, at the time of their turning or at a time of their choosing.

I like these

OK, let me sort this out for myself and then I am going to log for a bit.

1. I don't like the idea that if someone is late for their party, the will not be eligible for the contest entry. GLAD that is changed.

2. If I understand the forum at all, (and I might not) then I or anyone else could open a thread to celebrate anything. I could open one to celebrate what cool people we have at pre-vet. I fail to see what bearing that has on this forum and/or entry to the contest.

3.In my opinion, a pre-vet must still at least "show-up" for their turning or some time thereafter and accept the welcome to vet thread provided, in order to be eligible for the contest entry. Any parties they have outside of pre-vet should have nothing to do with what we do here.

anyway, that's how I see it. Because I know you all wanted to know my opinion. :)

Hehe... Great minds... ;)

Strongly agree. We can't go from ridiculously strict rules to anything goes. PVT is the heart and the brain of the operations and a gateway to the contests!

Good morning, Committee! And congratulations! :toast: Things are looking up! ;)

All good points. Really! And valid.

We will not agree on everything right off the bat, so let's not rush to change anything untill we've thought everything through and reached a consensus, which will take probably a couple of days. Let's do it right this time.

I have a few comments. I do agree with CES--let's keep it as simple as possible--we don't need to bribe anyone to come play with us. We're too awesome for that. :)

But we have to have rules in order to avoid total chaos.

I feel very strongly about 1 and 2.

The issue still to be decided is, if I understand it correctly, the eligibility for the mini contests and the grand contest. I'm for allowing everybody who completed 1 and 2 to be eligible for all contests, but I'm willing to go with the majority ruling. So if there is a vote, or something, in case we can't agree by acclamation, my vote goes to "let them all in if they completed 1 and 2 and have their thread opened."

Whew! :)

Both 1 & 2 are great ideas.
The only thing I see wrong with 2 is adding something else that has to be done. As we have found out, adding tends to complicate things no matter how simple it seems. And there are those who will feel a bit uncomfortable about asking a Vet to do this for them and to add a "you have to do this and that" could deter them from doing anything.

I totally understand that some people are shy and may not want an avatar party. What I am not getting, I suppose is why a person would have a problem popping in with an introduction and then merely.......showing up while fireworks go off in their honor and to grab a thread to move on to their Vet status. In addition, they don't even have to .....show up when the event is happening (the way I understand it is being changed) they just have to show up at some time during that hour ? or half hour, to grab their thread.

why should this even be a problem and if it is. Then let them forfeit the extra entry into the contest.

Sorry, but they need to do something to enter the contests... Every contest requires some kind of action on the part of the contestant... methinks...

Please explain "sponsoring vet" I have not heard that term until now. :)

Which brings us back to the question:

..snip...The question is "should participation in the PVT be a requirement for anything contest related?"

That I leave up to you guys.

The consensus so far is that they should come through the pre-vet thread. However, backtracking on the current "anyone can open a welcome thread" policy (if we in fact are backtracking) is DANGEROUS if we've already posted something else. So make sure you understand what we want to do, vs what we think we CAN do. That's what Tibby was having us remember. I'm not saying one way or the other. Just reminding.......

morri - some answers for you

1. they were never taken out of the monthly drawings but lost their chance for the grand prize drawing at the end of the year
2. no, you couldn't - welcome threads have to be opened in a special forum only accessible to vets
3. should be explained now

and yup, tweety - easy does it! ;)

Morri, I agree with you--but we are now talking about eliminating the need to have an avatar party in order to qualify. The party would be for those who really want to mark their day with a group of friendly people who are willing to be with them and launch some fireworks in their honor. The welcome thread alone (and possibly their acknowledgment of it) would suffice for the contest.

Morri.. your input is valuable. So is Fran's. So is everyone's at this point.

This is some of the same stuff that JJ went through before. It's kind of a catch-22 at times. If you put no restrictions on it... then what defines it? If you restrict too much, you get "issues". lol. So we have to balance it out.
