I like my kayfun best with microcoils at 1.1 ohms. As far as silica lungs, as long as your wick is wet you will not inhale wick material and even if you did as long as you are vaping amorphous and not crystalline silica you will be fine. SOP for keeping dust particles out of the air is to wet them. I believe most if not all of the silica we use as wicking material is amorphous silica. Ecowool is for sure. Yes, I am a chemist.

Hey Steam, I never heard those terms: amorphous or crystalline. How does one know which one we are using? I also dont know what SOP means, sorry for my lack of terminology.

I use what I think is good silica. I get it from a member who sells on EBAY. It is german and it takes a heck of a lot of torching and I can actually reuse it. I hope its a safe one, I was told that basically any silica that can not handle a blue flame torching is not safe.

Please let me know the differences and if you have a supplier that sells amorphous silica let us know. I really prefer silica to mesh for so many reasons.

Thanks anavidfan

I just want to say a few words regarding the lock ring. As many know I have bad hands and twisting things are difficult to painful. Many times during the day I can barely get enough strength to tighten things down.

On a few occasions I think I've got it tight and I swear its on, but its not. Due to this "handicap" I tend to tighten things down more than once just to be sure. So far I think the ring is very well designed. I tend to be a bit paranoid so I tend to constantly check and recheck everything.

Also because Im so paranoid about hurting the 510 connection pin, my Odysseus gets a bit loose, but again, its my handicap that leads to that. Should I be careful when screwing on my atomizer? I know one should never crank down any atomizer , but maybe Im overly cautious. I dont want to harm my ELA Rhodium contacts.

With so many things that require twisting , Im sure some wonder why dont I get an easier atomizer or stick with cartomizers? Though I still find cartomizers in a tank a wonderful experience, The Odysseus is my favorite. It does require twisting of wires, twisting of parts, screwing on nuts, mouthpieces, wires etc and I will deal with that till my hands dont allow it.

That goes for ELA. The day I cant use it because I cant put it together will be the day I just quit vaping or deal with EGO types
I do think the ELA is a great therapeutic device, I do feel my wrists are getting better.

.

With the ELA NOT requiring 10 mins of twisting to get the over-all length correct for the battery...it seems the ELA was almost designed just for you and your hand/wrist issues.

LOL, I learn something new every day, sometimes dozens of things.

I can only assume crystalline silica is standard fiberglass, like the cheap ones that come with some atomizers. I assume those are the ones that while you are handling you can feel the little fibers poking your fingers and hands. Those also tend to have a lot of fly away pieces.

When I get my silica I give it a couple 15 min boils in distilled water. Then I dry it in my toaster oven and then torch it to rid any residue that might be left over. I know this is probably overkill , but I swear it tastes so much better and it really softens the silica and it feels more cotton like without fly aways.

Since I use Ody, and I set it up with the long piece of silica and the shorter one, I can actually use the longer one over a couple times and once it gets a bit worn , I actually cut it in half and use it for the shorter topper. I get a lot of mileage from my silica.

You must have something defective. We've encountered zero issues with the locking ring. You shouldn't have to crank it down super tight (just a firm tightening, nothing you need overly crank on as you describe) and it shouldn't lose grip over time as you describe (we accounted for that in the design) or mark up the tube at all when tightened down. Obviously the tube can get surface scratches over time from sliding in and out when changing batteries, but tightening it down, even very tight shouldn't leave any mark what so ever.

Send it in and we'll make it right, it has a lifetime warranty:

David, don't stress it, it's super minor but thank you.

See this is why I refuse reveiws, and it's NOT a wear item... Maybe in 200 years lol. It's metal on metal. The clasp/ clamp is wedged in there, am I wrong to assume its pressed in more after it's placed into the lock ring? It's fine, it's a minute observance. I can tell you more things even minute that I quibble over on other mods, even ones I say I love.

To the new buyer/ or waiting for yours, ignore me! I'm the toughest critic on the planet because my mind doesn't allow me to pass over details good or bad. Like I said, the quality on this is superb. Its professional quality, not like a ton of privateer stuff you will buy as a vaper from user-come-vendor types.

You may love the tapered end, or might not be your cup of tea after using it like any product in any market. So, David you have my business for deserving the business and then some, don't worry about my lock ring I'm a hands on guy, maybe it needs a little adjustment.

Ok I'm back, just got home from work. All I did today was delegate, talk shop with the Senior VP of R&D and post here. Need to do some actual work tomorrow.

Anyways, amorphous silica particles are round and uneven in shape, kind of like the moon with it's craters. There are no sharp edges to puncture and irritate tissue. Crystalline silica is, like the name says, crystalline in structure which is sharp and will puncture and stick into tissue. This is bad as the embedded silica will do very bad thing to the tissue over time. This is how asbestos causes it's problems. With all that said, as long as you are now taking hits off your wick while you are dry burning it, you should not be inhaling wick material as dust will not suspend in the air when it is wet. There is a lot of info on the web about this and I don't want to hijack this thread too badly. As to what your wick is made of, check the ecowool web page, they state that it is made from amorphous silica. Normal silica is also most likely this but I haven't researched it.

Ana, you are right, if your wick material is shedding shards that pierce your hand, I would not use it.

A locking mechanism not holding grip as you describe leads me to believe something is defective as we have experienced zero issues with this design until yours, so we would truly appreciate the opportunity to examine your unit and fix anything that may be defective and root out any possible quality control issues, so you don't have to be "the toughest critic on the planet".

I see you are realtively new to ECF, so I want you to know, Super-T Manufacturing stands behind our work, designs and craftmanship 100%.

Don't let many hear that unless you are ready to be tested.

You can test me Freckle. :) I don't get to do much "real" chemistry for my career. I work in industrial R&D, mostly doing new product development for printed electronics. I use ohms law every day at work. I don't brag, I only want to use any knowledge I have to help people understand.

I've only been vaping for 11 months and believe I have advanced quickly.

Unfortunately, I left my phone at work. I'm going to walk the dog, get myself cleaned up and head over to the girlfriends blind; hope she's around. I'll be around for about a half hour if anyone has questions then it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Edit: Feel free to pick my brain Ana, unfortunately without my phone I'll be unavailable until tomorrow.

Well I'm heading out and will have no computer access for the rest of tonight. The dog did not want to stay out long; she knows we're heading out and she gets to play with her best friend:

my peeps too. infact...my team is POSITIVE that they made a game change based specifically on a very jesty glitch we discovered. on the vault...you remember the "Suicide Room"?
well i'd turn on friendly fire,
plant a couple of team mates on the other team,
and when someone would run into that room,
we'd close the doors and...while one of us was setting a breaching charge on both sides of the door....we'd kill them.
it'd glitch the doors as "busy" ...and lock that poor random guy in that room for the whole match LOL

Breaching charges were removed from RB62 LOLOL

Also...ban gas masks...and fill up their spawn with tear gas and smoke LOL such good times.

/off topic over!

I dont think you are Hi-jacking the thread, I thank you because with all the Kayfun-nuts here and other Ody and Ithaka users its relevant. Thanks.

^^ Yes! It's okay, ladies and gents. Super T doesn't mfg RBAs, e-liquid or video games...yet.

Just an idea, but if there's a topic of interest that you'd like to discuss in greater detail, please feel free to create a new thread on our subforum. :)
