We are not bad! Just smart!

My second one is 152xx, possibly one of the last ones in batch one. I ordered stainless rings for it.
I'm totally going to try bluing them in the oven instead of with a torch.
I found this, for what it's worth...
Colour Formed Approx Temperature C
pale yellow 290
straw yellow 340
dark yellow 370
brown 390
purple brown 420
dark purple 450
blue 540
dark blue 600
I remembered a thread over in the REO forums about torching the A7's a while back; here's what was posted for a color/temp guide:
so in Fahrenheit you'll need 1004-1112 degrees for blue
yeah, i would imagine a great deal of confounding variables come into play- atmospheric O2, type of heat, item temp or flame temp? kind of stuff. This site seems to disagree, but I don't know if it's true or not. How to Make Stainless Steel Blue | eHow
Edit: a bit of googling makes it sound like the temperature where it turns blue can vary greatly depending on the amount of chromium in the steel. I do see some reports of someone having success with the oven method, but who knows what grade it is.
hehe... yea i also ordered 2
but they're like a month apart![]()
I blue stainless steel by taking a propane torch to it, the problem is, you have to experiment a bit, sometimes you heat it too long and get a dark brown look. I only heat one end of the tips and that way the blue is at the bottom, turning to gold turning to silver towards the top.
Y'all are about to see some pretty awesome photoshop skills, but I think a piece of black leather around the indented part of the mod would look pretty awesome. Maybe even with some stitching:
