being a SuperT thread, i hesitate to discuss in depth, but i'd say this ELA is on that high level of mechanical. Haven't had to take mine apart yet... thank goodness
Just watched the Poldiac tutorial vid on youtube. Quite a job putting the thing together...
What do you all think?

About the plating, what i read on the super-t site makes perfect sense to me. However, I keep on reading things about silver plating being awesome...
Anyone knows why that is?

IF it was a silver based alloy that wa harder, more tarnish-resistant, and a better conductor than plain silver I could understand but I don't know what that alloy would be.
Honestly I never gave much thought to the switch/contact plating until I started looking at Super T mods a year or two back.

Silver, as the guy in the vid mentioned, is highly conductive. BUT... it tarnishes/oxidizes very fast. So while it might be a great, hard hitting device, it will have to undergo constant maintenance to keep it performing well. With all the parts in that mod that are silver.... that's a LOT of polishing to do!!! No thanks, I'll enjoy the Poldiac vicariously through others. :) :vapor:

Silver: High performance, high maintenance. If you keep up with the maintenance you'll have a very hard-hitting PV, but if you don't regularly clean it (which involves disassembling the Poldiac), you'll get average, or even sub-par performance.
Rhodium: Does not tarnish, which means you never have to clean it - short of getting some eliquid on the contacts and then a simple dab or wipe with a soft cloth. It's good, CONSISTENT performance with almost zero maintenance.

Personally, I like as little maintenance as possible...

Thanks guys I'm getting the picture. this all really makes sense! As time goes by i can only say that i'm getting more and more impressed by the ELA.
Don't remember having read yet where the name ELA comes from. Anyone knows?

Dave's daughter's name is Ella. Dave's mom named the mod after her but removed one of the "L"s so that it would be called "E L A" as opposed to "Ella"... Or at least that's what I took away from the explanation given somewhere in the middle of this thread.

I hope David has a bunch, make that BUNCH of 18500 (18490's) AW's in stock when this baby comes out... I'v been sticking to 650's forever up til now....

btw, am surprised how well a silica wick (Penelope) works on a good mechanical... 1.3 Ohms.... wow WOW!
The ELA will go both ways for me... Geni and Sili

Now you're making me want to pull my penny out.... :D

Poldiac is beautiful, but I have to agree, I couldn't put the money out for it.

I just sold my Poldiac. Gorgeous mod, but my P+ flat outperformed it. So well in fact that I vamped the Poldiac for about 30 minutes and back into its velvet bag it went. I didn't want to have to worry about wearing the silver contacts out either so I probably wouldn't have used it all that much.
