Well, I did the mother of all stupid things you can do. I just finished filling by Ody and set ELA in my PV holder. I always put the safety on as I know the bottom on holder is not level. Well I didnt.

Came back at least 45 minutes later and it was HOT. I calmly freaked out and let it cool. It was covered in juice. Took it into the bathroom and carefully took it apart. First thing that impressed me was that the poly clear tank on Ody was not even soft. Took it apart and not even the o-rings were melted and wick and coil were clean as can be.

Next attended to ELA, again washed it off after I took the the battery out. Battery was also in great shape, no bubbles , swelling, no hot electric smell. Put it all back together, popped a newly charged battery and all is perfection. I think the fact that it was full of juice and that I had a 1.7 ohm set up helped.

I just cant believe that after an hour of firing , nothing melted. THank goodness I was not even Kicked or Crowned.

Good quality is good.

I just had the same thing happen Friday, toasted the juice in my Kayfun but was fine after a good cleaning.

Finally my ELA should be shipped - by shipped it may be still sitting there or even still being worked on. Still something is happening that involves my ELA. Not sure how long it will take to get here (Australia) but i ordered a Hercules and Terminator the other day from Stormy's so hopefully they will get here around the same time. Does david use priority or first class?

I will have to check my o-rings under some magnification, but they looked fine. Im thinking the main reason nothing melted was that the tank was full of 4 mls of juice, if it had been empty or low, it might have been a different story. The higher resistance Im sure also was part of the reason also.

If I had a 2 cents for safety would it have shut off?

I choose to not call it panic buying ...

Got a Kiklet because I know I might want to play around with regulation some day.
Got an extension tube because it will add a little more strength to the tube assembly, strength is a good thing.
Got a Tanbur T-Tip because it looks cool, cool is very important in our social circles.

In other words, we have the ability to rationalize and justify our actions to combat guilt, so use it and be happy :)

Panic buying is my excuse. Since january I have purchased the ELA, p+16, p+10, P+18650, p+18500, simplicity 14500, p+18350. That is just the mods I have purchased at super T not counting tips batteries or anything else. Nor does it count the atties I have purchased elsewhere.

Wow. Should we be considering an 'intervention'? :)

From what I understand about the current fuses, yes, once the fues reaches a certain temp, they cut the circuit, the first version being like a small electrical tube/automotive fuse where the fuse is blown and the circuit can never be completed, and the second version more like a house breaker, where resetting the fuse reconnects the circuit.

Regarding the tank being empty/full can be a slippery slope... All supposition, but say that the tank was empty and the device was firing, the lack of juice to cool the coil may lead to the coil overheating, and thus blowing, causing the circuit to stop. Then again, I suppose the opposite could be also be said that the lack of juice can cause the mod/battery to get so hot that venting would have occurred.

Regardless, I do believe that the fact that you were using a regular/low resistance coil somewhat mitigated the damage. Had you been running SLR (as my somewhat limited understanding goes), the ramp up of the damage, due to the battery hitting the amp drain/heat limits could have occurred much, much quicker.

In any case, I'm glad that you (and to a lesser extent, your gear) are ok.

Thanks, what ever the for lack of damage, Im glad it did not hurt me or cause a fire. I just feel that the quality of the devices were a major reason that there was no damage to the atomizer or the APV. I really think that the atomizer and the PV were so heavy in construction that the unit became a large heat sink.

I guess we could go on with the speculations, all I know is that Im not going to be running more "experimentations" with my precious ELA or Odysseus, intentionally or not:)

V * V/O 3.8*3.8/1= 14.44W

That's wattage, not amperage. Your current draw would also be 3.8A

measured the current across my cobra and it read 14a.
Which is odd, because the battery is at 3.8v and the resistance is about 1ohm.
Maybe im measuring it wrong?

Anyway heres a picture!
