I'd say just do whatever works for you.. I can make a wick and coil in about 2 minutes.. It never looks pretty but it works great!

I do a figure 8 with a 5/4 wrap and pop it on. Adjust the loops and the coil spacing and rock it! My coils don't look sexy but they work great.

I won't change how I do it even if there is a better way because I can knock out a new coil in a matter of minutes and it wicks and works just fine for me..

At the end of the day, that's all that matters :)

I was rolling with that exact same setup (save for the drip tip) a couple weeks ago!

Once in a while ;-)

Here's mine as I'm using it now: Kicked with a 306 DCA and mock uranium Trippy Tip

He looks at mine and laughs because my coils are well.... kind of Frankenstein'ish looking.. LOL

lol, I've had some really darn ugly-looking coils that vaped really nice (my first ever Ody coil was hideous), so I don't worry about aesthetics when I wrap

Mine could be a reference point for ugly in the dictionary!

I could make them prettier but why bother since as soon as I pop the chimney on I never see it again until it's time on earth has expired..

I've been eyeballing these, ran across them in a drip tip search. Look great, love the idea of a little twist batt change. From what I can tell looks like a larger diameter mod, wish it was a touch thinner. I need to find some buried treasure these so many new things in the vaping world, been out of touch for awhile.

Can we play through a possible safety scenario involving the ELA real quick?

I was driving in my car yesterday, puffing away on my ELA. Made a sharp left turn and OH NO, my ELA slipped off my lap under my seat and became lodged there out of sight. I panicked, thinking I had forgotten to lock the button, thinking it was stuck on the ground inaccessible, with the button engaged firing away. With my hand violently digging under my seat, I pulled off to the side of the road desperately trying to free the ELA from its prison of jagged metal under my car seat. After a few bloody gashes to my hand, I managed to free the device, and discovered I had faithfully remembered to lock the button. The body is scratched up a bit, but at least it didn't heat up and damage anything.

So, what exactly would happen to a mechanical mod if it was out of sight, and the button was stuck in the on-position? I'm assuming the coil would heat up and eventually (hopefully) pop. But what then? Is there any danger after the coil has popped? I keep wondering what would happen if, for instance, I left it firing in my checked baggage on a flight or something.

Oh my goodness, sorry you got all bloodied and scratched up your ELA.

If you left it firing for a long time, things would get pretty hot. LOL. Not really funny. I did a stupid thing a few days ago. I have a PV holder that doesnt have a level bottom, so even though I knew that , I got distracted and left it for about 45 mins, firing. It was hot and all the juice emptied from a fully filled Odysseus.

When I picked it up it was real hot, but not burning. Both Odysseus and ELA were fine, I just removed the battery and dumped it. Washed ELA and Ody. I was surprised that my clear tank being a poly didnt melt or crack.

Needless to say, I am constantly using the safety.

I guess if things got not enough the worst scenario would be a battery venting? Im sure someone might confirm this.

If the coil pops, nothing. You'd have an incomplete circuit. I wouldn't count on the coil popping though... Especially if you'e using thicker gauge wire in an RBA. Kanthal A-1 can handle temperatures in excess if 1400 °C.

Beyond that, it's comes down to the atty you have attached and the wicking material. If the atty can take the heat then you'll have a very hot mod. If it can't, and the insulators melt, you could end up with a hard battery short. That would be the worst possible scenario.

The fact is, mech mods (including but not limited to the ELA) don't have brains. You have you use your own. :)

anavidfan: the EXACT same thing happened to me last week with my Paps and Kayfun. It didn't occur to me that the felt I used to line the bottom of my PV holder would trigger the Paps's firing button. Quite a reality check considering that things could have ended with a battery venting in a wooden PV holder.

Thankfully mod and Atty are unscathed. I chucked the battery though; it was discharged down to 2.2V.

On a lighter note: I took a couple of puffs after things had cooled down, and it seems that The Standard Vape's Dead Man's Party tastes like crab/crawfish after it's been allowed to cook in a tank for 45 minutes... Not at all a pleasant vape...

eew . . . I prefer my DMP un-cooked, thank you very much :p That reminds me, I haven't used that one in a while (been on a Frankenvape kick), maybe I'll bust it back out tomorrow

The atty downselect process is complete, I'm going with the only atty I'm aware of that -

1. Has the tank above the coil and feeds the wick through negative pressure (will not leak upside down).
2. Is 100% screw together, no case components are friction fitted, no case components can pop-off if the PV is dropped.
3. The air injection hole is directly below the middle of the coil.
4. The vape path is through a collector into a chimney directly above the middle of the coil.

Pure, unencumbered, straight-line, supercharged vaping pleasure - no wonder you peeps love it!
The Kayfun Lite has been ordered.
