Has anyone tried covering the inside of the compression ring with electrical tape or plasti dip to improve the grip on the upper portion?

I think it would probably be a bad idea. That aluminum ring is the main contact point between the body and tele tube, so if you insulated it you probably be interrupting your negative current path.

If you're lock ring isn't gripping, maybe it's damaged. My ELA has had heavy use, mostly in full 18650 mode, since June and the lock ring still holds nice and secure :2c:

Not the case at all, the locking ring is not part of the coil to battery circuit path.

You mentioned the Kiklet. I'm sorry, but I don't recollect whether you have a Simplicity for that Kiklet?

The true Kicklet is not being made any more. This made me sad. The Simplicity intergrated kicklet is a complete different animal all together
I've got one of the original for the P+ and really do like it. Sad it adds so much length to the mod. But on the + side, It fits anything with a 510 connection.;)

Cool, I have a "true" Kiklet then and I don't mind the length - that's part of it's character :)

Well, that's just downright excessive  I've never gone much above 14 watts on a DNA20, and that was on a sub-ohm coil, I couldn't imagine a situation where I'd need to go up into the 20's

Well a 0.8 ohm coil on a mech, with fully charged battery comes out to 22W. That's pretty much your "entry level" sub ohm coil. :p
