Oh it definitely cured the problem when I switched out for a new battery.I use the Efest Hybrid 2250Mah batteries in my ELA along with the Regular efest 2000mah and it happens with all of them.Maybe the Efest batts have some QC issues????

I think Ive seen some of those marks from the contact. If its not the spring, then I know Im getting real loose locking rings epecially on my older polished ELA. I know that my telescopic tube has wear marks from the locking ring. Could that be causing the slipping and loss of conductivity?

I think it is currently a unicorn. From what I can see in the vaping world, unicorns change from year to year. One day a Zen Mini's were worth $500 and now you have to give them away. What may be the best vaping device today may be tomorrows forgotten standard. Look at the Genesis. It's still popular but not nearly as much as it was 2 years ago because better things came out. There are so many people out there working at the garage level inventing new things and improving current things everyday...so much so that our choices are like never before. One of the reasons I stopped collecting was because I got tired of new things and when I saw the ELA, I was pretty sure it was everything I'd need for a long time. That turned out to be true. To me it's not a collectible, it's a utility device I could buy one really really well made device or multiple not as well made devices. The fact that it telescopes was the closer. It's the 1911 of vaping mods.
If the locking ring does not lock and slips,yes it will lose conductivity too.I need a new locking ring myself,lol.
I think David posted that we can sand the compression ring or was it the inside of the locking ring if it gets slippery? I just want to make sure I sand the right part.

Good evening anavidfan, I hope you are well. . You can try roughing up the aluminum band inside of the compression ring with some sandpaper, but it shouldn't be necessary. From what I've seen and experienced, the reason slippage occurs is from over tightening of the lock ring which presses into the side of compression band (the slanted portion) rather then forcing it down, but once it's overtightened, it's toast as it leaves impressions in the side of the band, so the force just goes sideways into the band and doesn't transfer the force down. It could be though that you aren't overtightening and that you just aren't generating enough force to get a good lock.
The aluminum band inside your lock ring is what is commonly referred to as a compression ring, anyone who experience with copper/aluminum plumbing compression fittings or race car fuel fittings can probably visualize and has experienced what happens when you overtighten them. Heres a standard plumbing compression band, they are soft of aluminum or copper so the are flexible and grip and the slanted area is what can get impressioned in if overtightened:
The thing is, tightening is kind of a "feel" thing, hence why some have never replaced theirs even after a year and others have had to in short order. I think sometimes when we get a bit of slippage, we tend to then tighten harder and we end up chasing our loses. It isn't about strength, so even someone with weaker hands can overtighenten as that knurling gives one a lot of grip, though it could be you just aren't tightening enough. I wish I lived closer to you so I could personally help you out
The slippage occurs when I have to press the button a bit harder. Somewhere something starts to go wrong and as I press the button the locking ring slips. I will tighten it lightly and it looks as though its fine , then performance goes down or even I get no fire and then the button pushes up too far and the whole thing slips . I will compress it again and nada, no fire, I spin the button and or take the bottom off , reload the spring and put everything together again. I will work fine for a while or when I have to change the battery, I have to start all the fiddling again. I will change out the compression band , I have one left and see if it will behave again.

Everybody got in on the pack of 5 compression bands but me.I can't even purchase a single band before they go out of stock,but I did manage to get lucky enough to get my ELA,lol.
I would send you one, but mine are all used and the last 2 out of the 7 I had I just put on my ELAs. I gave away 2. The ones I have I dont think would work any better than the one you are using
Okay, so I sanded the compression ring, no slipping, but then It did not fire. Took it apart, attached everything. Still either nothing or EGO type stupid puffs. So then I traded the spring on my Satin and its working much better. Still not performing better than my Natural, yes Natural. I dont know. It was working great for months, then I started misbehaving. I thought it was my atomizers, but decided to take out the Natural to try it out with the same atomizer and it hits hard with no problems.
My simplicity works great, I never clean it, really its so god awful dirty, that when I touch the threads it leaves a black ring on my finger. I clean my polishied ELA daily with alcohol and every other day with dish soap . I dont know what Im doing wrong anymore.

I get similar performance drops from my locking ring occasionally, but haven't had to replace the compression ring yet. Normally if I just loosen it up and re-tighten it's fine, then I know it's time to take it apart and give it a bath. I always notice this when I find myself pressing the button a little harder and the tube slips a tiny bit. My ELA has seen daily use since I received it and lives most of it's time in my pocket collecting all kinds of crap and being abused so it gets pretty dirty. This time of year I find the constant need for hand lotion to keep my hands from cracking doesn't do any favors for the tube either, always ends up a little greasy when I change batteries...
Same thing with the lock button, when I start having to press it toward the side or spin it giving it a quick clean takes care of it, I find that much less often than re-tightening the locking ring though.

About having to press the button a bit harder. I had problems at first with my ELA and had to keep pressing hard so therefore kept stripping it down etc and usually getting really weak hits.
I was beginning to give up on it but noticed a mark on the bottom of the battery. So I eventually got to the bottom pin and found that it had tiny semi sharp protrusions which I presumed to be the Rhodium plating.
Not wanting to file it and lose all the plating I began tapping it with a hammer until flat. From then on it has hit a hundred times better and I never have to push hard on the button any more.
Not in any way saying that this is your problem but it is worth checking in my opinion. I went through 4 compression bands before I found this tiny little physical problem with such a huge impact.

What are you doing with those compression bands that you needed to replace them so soon? I have had the original one in my ELA since June of 2013... It still as good as new....
All, My lock switch is in the lock position and I cant get it unlocked it wont move
