PROBLEM: Smok ZMAX Mini + Protank 2

I was on a quest to fix the leaking/gurgle from the Protank 2 and accidentally fixed my air flow issue. I doubled up the grommet on the base of the atomizer that screws into the base of the PT2. No leaking so far and I can screw the tank all the way down and draws 100% *see attachment or link below

I don't know how the airflow is perfect now when screwed all the way down but I hope others find similar success!

I'm pretty new to the vaping world, please forgive me if this issue has been discussed before. I have yet to scratch the surface of this forum.

My problem is the Protank 2 when paired with the Smok zmax mini does not draw any air when screwed all the way down. It's literally sealed off. The only way to draw air is to unscrew the PT2 a couple turns but it becomes loose and wobbles slightly. I also noticed the air holes above the threads on the PT2 get screwed into the 510 post and seem to be blocked as well.

Has anyone had issues with PT2 or other 510 tanks drawing no air or being really hard to pull? Specifically with the Smok ZMAX mini? Any common fixes or modifications I can make to the PT2? I really like the glass tank and bottom coil, was thinking of getting a PT3 but if it has the same issues I will need to find an alternative.

It's a pretty common issue that pops up here frequently, and not just on the zMax. The only fix is to either to remove the ring around the fitting, and get a beauty ring that can hold the tank up higher on the threads so the air hole is exposed (you also might nod to pull the pin out from the head on the tank to make contact), or drill a new air hole (not recommended). You might look into a PT clone, like the Davide, which seem to have better placed air holes.

An air flow controller, sold by many vendors, is an excellent and inexpensive way to add air flow control to any device. Shop around, but here's an example:

Tank Airflow Controller

The Hippo V2 for the Provari is an example of an air flow controller for an APV, still has to be babied, but when it hitting right, it not only looks great, but works great. A lot of advanced toppers have built in air flow control like the Kayfun's 3.1 and KFL+. Also, a lot of mechanicals also have air flow control. A lot of the vapor we get from low ohm toppers is based on air flow control. Without it, we get no vapor, so it's important everywhere, and there are a lot of options to explore. input appreciated! I did find these air flow controllers but one site I was reading reviews and a few people said they are more of an air flow restriction device vs. increasing air flow... for those who have too "airy" of a draw. However, they are pretty cheap so it's not a complete bust if it doesn't help. I'll look into those too b/c I like the Kanger tanks and want to try the Protank 3 BDC

i feel you bdub on that protank 2, like you said it works ok if unscrewed to the point where its barely making contact. i like my kanger mt3 better, it just hits way better and has almost no leaking issues. it seems like the protank 2 would be better if it used the same atomizers at the t3/mt3

yo J5 try this for me with the protank 2... I was doing some research and came across a reply from someone saying to pull out the contact on the atomizer bottom out a little so it will make connection before it's completely screwed down. The little part the red arrow is touching below:

I'm not sure if it will even pull out more on the protank 2 but I remember it sat so flush maybe this will help.

oh and the trustfire tr-001 charged that Panasonic 18650 in a couple hours. wasn't long at all to my surprise.

the attachment didnt work, but i know what youre talking about, ill try it out. yeah that trustfire isnt bad, it just charges at 500mA. the one that came with mine charges at 1000mA, but only charges one battery...anyways ill try that out with the tank thanks

that worked thanx bdub! i took out the atomizer head and puilled that bottom contact out a couple millimeters, so that fixed the wobbling, plus with better airflow im not sucking liquid into the center...protank fixed! nice one

Well I seemed to have fixed all my issues with the Protank 2 on my Smok ZMAX. Besides the air tight fit when screwed down completely, the PT2 would leak and gurgle on me like crazy.

I doubled up the grommet at the base of the atomizer that screws into the base of the PT2. It's a tighter fit screwing on the atomizer but I do not have any leaking or gurgle AND my Smok ZMAX Mini now draws 100% when screwed all the way down. I didn't even pull the post out farther. In fact it looks more recessed now.

No idea how my air flow issue was solved with the double grommet but I'm not complaining. Hope others find similar success.
