Oh, I can fix that......

Let it gooooo, let it gooooo...:pervy:

I have a confession to make. The tunes that I most frequently hum without realizing it are a part of the melody from "Toreador Song: Votre toast je peux vous le rendre" and "Habanera" both from Bizet's Carmen and the theme from Casper the Friendly Ghost. You can't say I don't have eclectic taste. I used to drive my co-workers nuts, since I was unaware of my humming.

Is there something in common with them that I don't hear?

ETA: I never liked the Casper cartoon, but I do like Carmen. I thought Casper was a wimp and wanted to hit him with a rock, even though he was already dead.

Back to pondering...who came up with the idea for a cartoon about a dead kid? Was it ever revealed how Casper died?

I love Google. in the cartoon, he was already dead and no explanation was ever given. then the movie came out and they said he died of hypothermia.

The cartoon was around long before the movie (which I didn't know existed). It sounds like Hollywood came up with a quick answer.

I love it! Was it ever used in Bugs Bunny? It sounds like it should have been.

ETA: Oh My Freakin' God!!! No wonder I don't have any room in my brain for useful information!

I knew it was in A Clockwork Orange (one of my fav films), but for some reason Bugs popped into my head. I looked around and it appears it's a fan-made video, but still....someone out there thinks like I do. Scary.

Synchronicity is a thing :)

I spend a lot of time daydreaming...some days my wife asks what did you do today? I'll say...chased the cats around with a string on a stick. Sounds better than daydreaming, no? Better than saying, I really don't remember what I did today, I was thinking...

I've been told I was sigh-kick, but I knew they were going to say that.

Actually, I believe very strongly in synchronicity, or something similar.

I prefer "pondering." Since people seem to equate daydreaming with wasting time (which I firmly believe it isn't) and often aren't sure what pondering means. When pressed I start talking about a bodhi tree which usually makes them go away.

Pondering ;) is a lost art in our current world.

No 2 or No 3 lead? I used to really like the No 3's, all I got now are the old school yellow No 2's that I like to sharpen with a pen knife.

I'm addicted to art supply stores, so I have all different kinds of pencils.

I had to look for this in my files. It's from a few years back, ;) but I think it's a very good example of how pondering works.

Election Night Music Trivia

God, I love the Internet! Almost instant answers to my questions, which I admit can be obscure, but someone has to ponder these things.

I have to give McCain props for his concession speech. I found it heartfelt and positive, considering the beating he had just received, but the music being played as he left the stage really caught my attention. It had the sad theme one might hear in a film after the death of a great leader or the fall of an empire.

In contrast, as Obama left the stage after his acceptance speech, the music (which also sounded like a film score) seemed positive and confident - almost regal. Very appropriate for our difficult times, I think. If the rally had balloons, confetti, and blasted something like Don't Stop Thinkin' about Tomorrow, it would have been a bit tasteless.

Anyway, after some searching, I confirmed both themes were from films scores. Obama's was from Remember the Titans and McCain's was from Crimson Tide.

Obama: Remember the Titans:

McCain: Crimson Tide:

Now this is where things get interesting.

I wasn't familiar with either film, so I looked them up. Surprisingly, both films star Denzel Washington, but the plots are very different. (Thanks Wikipedia!)

Remember the Titans is based on the true story of an African American football coach (played by Denzel Washington) at a newly integrated high school. Tensions arise when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. As you can probably guess, under the coach's leadership the players transcend racial prejudice and become a winning team.

The fictional Crimson Tide takes place during a period of instability in Russia. Units of the Russian military loyal to an ultranationalist have taken control of a nuclear missile installation and are threatening nuclear war if either the American or the Russian governments attempt to confront them.

The United States nuclear strategic missile submarine USS Alabama is given the mission to go on patrol and be available to launch its missiles in a pre-emptive strike if the Russian renegades attempt to fuel the missiles they have captured. "Captain Frank Ramsey (Gene Hackman) is the commanding officer of the sub, and one of the few commanders left in the Navy with any combat experience. He chooses as his new executive officer (XO) Lieutenant Commander Ron Hunter (Denzel Washington), who has an extensive education in military history and tactics, but no combat experience."

My, my, messages even in the music.

I wonder who got to select the scores and what alternate choices were ready had the election gone the other way?

As I said, someone has to ponder these things.

Ms. Celot, thank you for the inspirational, educational, and musical interlude. Enjoyable, and then some!

Thank you. :) It's the sort of thing that fills my mind a lot of the time. I don't know if that's sad or not.
