Hmmm...the switch my Prodigy came with has a resistor in it...unless I'm totally confused.

My switch has a little blue ceramic tube looking thing. It turned dark when the switch quit working so I sent it back and PS sent me a new identical switch. I didn't know there were "unresistored" switches. I thought the new mechanical switches they will be offering soon were the ones without resistors.

Anyway, whatever switch it originally came with (with the little blue ceramic thing in it) works just fine with either two RCR123A 3.0 V batteries (for 6V? or 5V? whatever it is) OR with one 18650 3.7V. You shouldn't have to buy anything extra -- just a different battery.

It works great for me, anyway.

Sounds like you have the resistored switch, so two 3.0v batts give you around 5v, but a single 3.7v only about 3 or 3.2v. The non-resistored switch would vape much better with the 18650 3.7v battery.

A lot depends on the Atomizer that you are using.

The Protege will work fine with a 510 atomizer. 510 runs hot and
will give you a good vaping experience. Only problem is the short cartridge life.

For 5v vaping and most peoples favorite experience you'll want a 801 atomizer running at 5V.

The Prodigy V1 is discontinued. The new prodigy that is coming out will be smaller and will be designed to take two tenergy 3v batteries and run at 5v. Perfect for the 801 which is a bigger cartridge.

Myself, I use a normal 510 during the days and at night I vape with the Prodigy set at 5v with the 801 and I think that gives me the best vaping sessions. During the day I like to use a device that looks like a normal cigarette and at night I go for the bulkier serious vaping sessions.

I should mention that the Prodigy V1 switch has a reputation for failing so you should get at least an extra one. If you don't care about size than the V1 prodigy with the super long lasting battery and the switch without resistor will probably give you the longest battery life and combined with the 510 you will be a happy camper except for the short cartridges.

You can still pickup Prodigy V1 on the classifieds.
