I’ve spent a lot of time in the Canadian wilderness over the past three decades. Observed numerous black bears close and afar. You watch them lumbering along, blubbery bellies swaying back and forth, those giant paws getting in the way of each other. You can’t help but wonder when they’re going to fall over. They’re so clumsy. Then one day I’m floating in the middle of a bay and a black bear swims by. He clearly had a purpose in mind. He was headed straight for a 120 foot, totally vertical rock bluff. I thought, what in the hell does this bear think he’s doing? As soon as he got out of the water and touched that bluff, he went up that rock in a matter of seconds with deft, agility, and a coordinated effort unlike I had ever seen from an animal. The balance and lack of fear turned that clumsy clod of a beast into a thing of poetic beauty. Never knew what purpose he had but he left no doubt he had one.

Neil always reminded me of that bear. A gangly, uncoordinated, nerd of a man. That is, until he got behind his drum kit. Some creatures need to be put in motion to see their beauty. Neil and that bear confirmed that. Never doubt them. Climbing rock bluffs and playing drums are what God intended them to do.

Truly marvelous, Bronze.

Thank you.

Truly marvelous, Bronze.

Thank you.
I suspect not many here were Karen Carpenter fans but I was (still am). Couldn’t name you the titles of many of her songs or even the lyrics. Never mattered to me. I just wanted to hear that beautiful voice sing. To this day I feel a void as if we never got enough of that rapturous voice. And while Neil gave us 40 years I still feel like I didn’t get enough of him. His words and his music.

I too. A voice and range with very few parallels. Definitely cut way too short, and still listened to (by many including me).

We'd already lost Neil's playing, but unbeknownst to us was the (too) soon coming loss of his soul, here on Earth. A loss that's felt, not necessarily by all, but certainly by many.

I've never been much for the whole concept of "Best", especially where musicians are concerned (with vape running a very close 2nd). He was extraordinary to me (along with some others), and definitely my favorite with two sticks and skins. But it was about so much more than just his drumming.

So very, very much more.

Way more than just his drumming. He made you think. So many quotable lyrics. I think of them all the time.

Met Peart in Atlanta. I'm NOT the guy with him in the first photo, that guy has the picture of me with Peart. We didn't swap cameras and never exchanged pictures. (DOH!).
These photos were taken when 'Fly By Night' had just been released. Sadly, at the time I didn't realize what a mega-star he'd become. We had lunch, watched Melissa Manchester perform.

nitials after a name is no guarantee of intelligence.

More like a deterrent these days. Like colleges are not where you want to be to have a learning experience. When I went to Undergrad like, the LGBT association would like be welcoming and fun (they had their own special dorm but it was not mandatory and no declaration of genethliac needed.) They had great parties and they would let you attend even if you inadvertently or even on purpose like, said something offensive, they would just laugh at you. Advocacy involved chalking positive messages on the quad every now and then. Some of them were just nice, period like "Love yourself." Who would not want to see that on their way to their first cup of coffee.

Professors made you think. They would make you FIGURE things out. Which was always fun, as a philosophy major Elder statesman I would always watch the freshman in berets argue it out like, "The mirror theory reflects the symbiosis of the self! I think!" And the other one would be like, "No... .dude.... It's about self-alienation as one becomes aware that one has agency but is now SPLIT."

And I'd be like, all casual, as I sauntered past, saying, "The only complicated thing about Lacan is his writing style. His wife had a kid, and well,, at least he didn't box it up like Skinner (although that was overblown) and he happened to notice it could recognize itself in a mirror at a certain age and thought it was ALL special. Even though it's not. A BUNCH of apes and other animals can also do it but Lacan was AMAZED. I suggest getting drunk and making your paper short... And sweet.

LOL to be fair, the profs elected one philosophy major with the common sense. I won, hands down, every year, LOL.

But colleges are all freaky now,. Don't go. I mean go if you must I guess, just choose wisely.

I have totaled cars before .It's not so bad .I think the husband and I have just condemned our first house, Water main break spraying SUPER hot water all over the house. It looks like one of those house rehab shows before pics the shows where you are like "That can't be rea." I am here to tell you it CAN OMG. I have never seen a moldier house. The husband is verklempt. I'm kind of well, like, "Nobody died, we have risen from the ashes MANY times before but I have no clue what the insurance company will do, It sucks..

May be time to find a rental at half the price, like located near the fence though. This house is way too big anyway. Etc.

Maybe we could find a place with linoleum . My vapes would thank me. I have my performance review on Tuesday. I hope it doesn't suck too bad. It probably will though.
