Today was that sad day, took my old girl to the vet and laid her to rest. It was time, I am relieved to not have to see her limping around anymore. I'm going to have trouble falling asleep without the sound of her loud purring that she did every night...
Yes that's tough stuff.
I had an old cat, Ruby must have been 15. She was also limping, and not able to jump anymore. It was hard seeing her try to hop onto the bed. She finally gave up on the jumping, which was very sad.
It's better to do it before they suffer.
I was out of town regularly, and had a cat sitter come in to feed and make sure all was well.
She [is a vet's assitant,so knows what she's doing] called one afternoon and said that Ruby was howling and having seizures. It would have taken me 4 hours to get home. We waited a bit, but she said it was getting very bad. She took Ruby in with my permission. It would have been selfish of me to let the cat suffer for hours longer, just so I could bid her farewell.
