Like the bike, first I've heard of the shaft drive, but then I'm not up on these things anymore.
how would you compare the riding experience in one of those vs the regular ones?
i just saw that these bikes can have gears too.
why did you take a shaft drive bike instead of the chain one?
Thank you oplholik !!! Though never common, the shaft-drive technology has been around almost as long as bicycles have been around. The earliest picture I've seen of a shaft-drive bike was from around 1900.
I love it because no concerns about messy greasy chains or persnickety considerations for gear and chain alignments or "doing the math" to get from a high gear to low gear or low to high quickly and smoothly. Much like the synchronized transmission of a manual automobile, you can shift the gear of a shaft-drive bicycle at any speed and at any time ... even sitting still.
Doesn't mean I don't also love my Schwinn Classic Supreme. In fact, the Schwinn is the more comfortable, while not as smoothly operating. I prefer the Schwinn's lines, frame proportions, lower ground clearance and ergonomics to some degree. But at the end of the day, I generally hop on the shaft-drive first and would keep it over the Schwinn just for practicality and efficiency.
