So today I enjoyed a 30 mile ride on the greenway, I have been working out on the most hilly section of the trails and this was a good ride in that section. I feel confident that I can now ride the entire length in one shot ( 32 ) miles. Some sections are closed due to improvements and costruction projects, and also power line projects, so it will be late fall or maybe even winter before I can make my big ride, maybe by then it will be anti climatic, because next weekend I figured out a course to do a 40 mile ride.
Today's wildlife sighting was rather spectacular...at a section of the trail that was in a wooded area with a field intersecting, I noticed out the corner of my eye a red tailed hawk swooping towards another bird in a diving attack...the other bird crossed the trail first and hawk was crossing my approach about fifteen feet ahead when the bird saw me...suddenly it opened all of its wing and tail feathers in a full on braking maneuver and veered away not ten feet in front of my face...at this point I was actually hill bombing at a very rapid speed and didn't even have time to grab the brake levers during this encounter, it was
thrilling, startling, and beautiful. The sun was ahead of me so the splendor of all the colors in the hawks feathers suddenly burst as the bird splayed its feathers to grab as much air as possible...
It's the little things in life that make me rejoice
