I love weird Al. And you know, he's not just a satirist, either, playing the accordion is HARD. My brother plays like fifteen instruments at this point, and watching him teach himself the accordion was hilarious. :)

Go Weird Al!

You know who else I consider underrated? They Might be Giants. They do kids music now, but it is TOTALLY not bad and trust me. as a parent, You Need That Sometimes. LOL.

LOL I had no idea that Sting was in any movie other than Dune. From watching Dune I was pretty certain that no filmmaker would ever hire him again.

That is one mistake even Bono did not make (although I was looking and like, interested to discover that like, the douche sunglasses thing is actually due to glaucoma.)

I also (mistakenly) assumed that his wife must've died and that was the reason the last album released was so awful, but I guess it was Just Due to Age.

Listen to me, man, it must be awful to be famous. I'm just judging and speculating away.

Favorite thing Bono ever did (in my book) "Am I BUGGING YOU? I don't mean to BUG you." I will trot that line out on regular occasions, and it can be great, and it can be weird but it's never the same each time. LOL sometimes I use it as an opener when I'm yelling at my Creator in a parking lot on occasion. My creator is always like, "Anna, you are so freaking lame," and sometimes it rains.

Favorite thing that Sting ever did, shamefacedly admit that his "tantric hours of sex at a time," (he claimed it during the height of his fame in Rolling Stone I think) were more like, "Hours begging my wife Trudy," sort of embarrassedly like years later-- but he did it.

Hmm these two were really my idols growing up (I can't help it if my teens were in the late 80s, early 90s man) but I do note they're both still married to their original wives, they don't suck (except Sting at acting) I am going to say I chose wisely.

I mean, what were my alternatives? Gun z Roses, Nirvana? Metallica?

I got to see Sting's "Soul Cages" at the Merriweather post pavilion and there were screaming fat chicks in front of me. They almost got punched. Got to see U2 on I am going to guess the "fly" tour at some huge stadium but wound up crouched behind my car outside with like every blanket and coat I could find wrapped over my belly because I was like, pretty sure the boy was gonna be born DEAF.
LOL.

Good times I am elderly enough to be amused by this. Sorry for my stroll....

Had never heard of They Might Be Giants until I met my husband. One of the few groups we can agree on. He used to always try to get me to listen to Tom Waits and just...no. I can read the words and appreciate them but I just can't listen to him. Elvis Costello, yeah, had a bad boyfriend in high school that listened to him all the time and just couldn't anymore. Same reason I will never again seek to listen to a Beatles song.

North of Detroit, way south of Heaven
Just happened to be looking out the window today when what do you think I saw? A young kitten trotting across the lawn with a small red squirrel in it's mouth! I said to Jackie, "That's why we keep the cats around! If one (cat) gets in the live trap, I'm letting it go...." She nodded in agreement saying as long as they take them somewhere else. She hates finding dead birds in the yard and I don't blame her. Collateral damage...

I got dragged to a concert by some new friends - neither me or any of my other friends had heard of the band. I can't seem to figure out if it was '81 or '82, but I was googling, and here's the entire '81 show on video!!

Man that filmography NO WAY. Oh well, much as "Roxanne" led him to fame somehow (that song sucks so hard) I guess like, he acts so bad, people just gotta have more.

I do not care for Bob Dylan. I never really did, but then the ex husband that was his favorite band, and if I never hear Bob Dylan again, it will be Not Soon Enough.

I recognize and respect his songwriting talent and everything and most everything he writes, if sung by someone else is just fantastic, he'll be on my left in hell, and Bono will be on my right, crooning "I can't live, with or without you," well it's a long story but my best friend in England SLEPT to that song and she also spiked my drink with something that oh, happened to give me like two weeks of insomnia straight, as I frantically read Lovecraft and like wondered if you could die from sleep deprivation (I called and asked my mom even! She said, "No, don't be ridiculous" and I was like, "WHAT ABOUT THE CATS?") whilst reading lovecraft listening to that song on Auto replay. It was not good. I eventually went to the ER in the town and had the best medical experience of my life, for free, and they handed me some stuff to make me sleep. They wouldn't let me pay even though I kept insisting, "I am not from here."

That was the friend who taught me to inhale. She was super bad news, but awful fun somehow. LOL.

Ceejay0875, what do you like in music?
A mixed bag, really. Some older rock (see a good number of coldgins posts), love Savatage, my favorite cd of theirs is Dead Winter Dead (tells a very sad story beautifully), Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance, Meatloaf, Muse, some Lincoln Park, BabyMetal, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Green Day but their politics really suck (sorry to offend, just sayin'),...missing my music right now. Somehow my phone fried my sd card and I'm waiting on my son to load everything on the new one for me (and also a flash drive since he moved out and I can't get him to fix it for me right away anymore!)

That is awesome. LOL, also before Brian Eno made Bono get singing lessons I think. He did improve a bunch but I do think Brian Eno was like, the best thing to happen to that band (well any band honestly, but U2 in particular). Bono wound up the lead singer because he wanted to be the lead guitarist but he could not learn to play the guitar :lol::lol::lol:. Man, I make fun of like, my youthful heroes a LOT.

To be fair, this was all before autotune. I used to love Coldplay a bit and then they released that album that had the studio versions IMMEDIATELY followed by live versions. They have been dead to me ever since. Now that there is live autotune the truth about performers will never be known.

I'm not sure it's entirely good either, although honestly I'm all about the emotional connection to a song, but I really hate that you don't have to do a bit of work along with it.

I thought I was better but now I feel awful. I have had a headache all day, and I'm coughing my brains out when I vape, I'm actually using snus BY CHOICE if I feel like this tomorrow, I am starting that antibiotic.

Anna

ETA: I adore this whole album

Absolutely love them! Thanks, I needed this tonight. Some time ago my son told me to be nice to him pr he would play "Helena" (yes, different album I know) at my funeral, and I told him I would be honored if he played "Helena" at my funeral. Guess I'm just weird...

Well I think they're super awesome too. I will admit I have been accused of being weird on many an occasion. My son introduced me to that band via my ex and like it was right around the time I had to get the parental severance (well the kiddo asked, I more than happily agreed) and it just reminds me a TON of my ex (the good the bad, and the ugly.)

Well, The Edge never "learned to play guitar," either :D.

But that's why he's good.
If you're a guitarist, you can listen to U2 stuff, and you just KNOW - he fiddled around, made some nifty noises, and worked it into a song pattern.

I mean, look - "I will follow"...its mostly just 2 strings...1 finger moving a bit... It's simpler than "chopsticks".

Not knocking the approach. There some Hendrix like that - which makes sense - he FIGURED OUT how to play guitar UPSIDE DOWN, ensuring originality and innovation.

Bono wound up the lead singer because he wanted to be the lead guitarist but he could not learn to play the guitar :lol::lol::lol:.
