Somewhere in my vaping history (it's more than four whole years!) I remember someone somewhere saying never use protected batteries in a mod. I never have.The problem with protected batteries is the failure mode.
it is much more violent than is the case with unprotected batteries.
So, it is not a recommended practice.

My first Mech's I owned were REO's, and when I was first looking at them I started reading the earliest threads, and in the beginning Rob was recommending the AW protected batteries. So I bought some, I did not like them, I ended up using my red AW's instead. I only ever dropped a spring with it once, the first time I built a Mark Bugs Chalice III.
