I said that about 18350's and 18490's. I'm on the record and I was WRONG!!! :)

I found some smaller button tops (thanks to the people here) but they are of inferior quality...short cycles as if they are half used up. Nothing like the good ole AWs. Better than nothing to be sure, but...

Difference being application, both before and after the advent of vape. There's a reason people used button-top 18650s in the original mods, way back before you cut down the cherry tree :D. They were already pretty popular, and still are.

In my home, outside of vape, I have the following, all with button top 18650s inside:
  • RIGID cordless tools
  • Black & Decker cordless tools
  • DeWalt cordless tools
  • Worx cordless tools
  • Two TASER Strikelights
  • Four tactical flashlights
There are probably some others that I'm not even thinking of at the moment.

In general (and you can look these up):
  • 18650s are commonly used in flashlights, electronics, and even electric vehicles
  • Each Tesla uses 7,180 of them
  • Some/many high lumen flashlights (Thrunite, Fenix, and others)
  • Laptops and other electronic devices use a one or more 18650s
The smaller batteries, on the other hand, are much more confined in their applications, and may even get more business from the vaping market than anywhere else. I know the 16340s are used for some radio controlled stuff, but that's tiny compared to the market for 18650s.

Obviously none of this makes for any guarantees, but odds are that the 18650 market may well outlast vapers' need for them.

Time, it should be telling. ;)

And as for Provi size.....

I was one who loved loved loved the Provi in Mini mode, but for those teensy 1.12 inches, it's really not THAT big of a deal to go full '650 mode, no?

I thought size didn't matter??? o_O

;)

I tend to go for AA Flashlights myself, like to run them on NIMH cells...they "can" be overdriven with 14500 cells, but I don't usually chance that as it can have consequences...for larger lights I've always liked the Maglites...got a two C-cell LED one that runs really bright, and hot! Like, the body of the light gets hot to the touch if you leave it on too long, and it is BRIGHT. I gotta try me some 18650 lights sometime...
