I said that about 18350's and 18490's. I'm on the record and I was WRONG!!!
I found some smaller button tops (thanks to the people here) but they are of inferior quality...short cycles as if they are half used up. Nothing like the good ole AWs. Better than nothing to be sure, but...
Difference being application, both before and after the advent of vape. There's a reason people used button-top 18650s in the original mods, way back before you cut down the cherry tree
In my home, outside of vape, I have the following, all with button top 18650s inside:
- RIGID cordless tools
- Black & Decker cordless tools
- DeWalt cordless tools
- Worx cordless tools
- Two TASER Strikelights
- Four tactical flashlights
In general (and you can look these up):
- 18650s are commonly used in flashlights, electronics, and even electric vehicles
- Each Tesla uses 7,180 of them
- Some/many high lumen flashlights (Thrunite, Fenix, and others)
- Laptops and other electronic devices use a one or more 18650s
Obviously none of this makes for any guarantees, but odds are that the 18650 market may well outlast vapers' need for them.
Time, it should be telling.
