UP in the Diner ~~~
* This bad boy right here *
Buttery French Onion Steak Risotto with Grated Parmesan, Shredded Asiago, Croutons and Parsley ... Steak strips augmented by demi-glace and onions, get finished in a bath of glorious butter, served atop a super-cheesy risotto and topped with more cheese, parsley, and crunchy croutons. Combine creamy, rich risotto with the cheesy, onion-y punch of French onion flavors, and what do you have? This bad boy right here. Bon Appetit :)

Losing yours and him loosing his isn't the same thing. It's difficult, but don't humanize your dogs. It's called anthropomorphism. And if you can't maintain positive control of your pet(s) at ALL times, the BEST thing to do is spay/neuter to avoid any mistake accident litters that may only contribute to already taxed and burdened shelter and rescue over population.
Yeah and I'm sure the puppy mill across the street would love a cross breed of Boxer/white labs...

@Hobbs And you're right, he's not human. He treat him with love, kindness and care. He's our puppy dog, our friend and a member of the family. But, we also teach him respect and the hierarchy. The only time he will get let off his tether is when we are with him and that will only be when we feel he is ready and that ain't yet.

Funny thing I've noticed with dogs and their treats - they never seem to know the SIZE of the treat, but they are UBER conscious of the number of times one's hand goes towards their little eager mouths!

I apologize, ginster, for being a bit harsh when I "yelled" NO, don't. I really believe an 8oz. steak would be incredibly harmful to the gorgeous and sweet Steel, while ONE ounce (ok, 2 maybe) cut into teensy pieces would make him one happy carnivore.

I respect your (and Jackie's) decision not to neuter. I have a feeling there will still be much discussion around it tho.

Hugs and Arfs~

I don't really care if people humanize their pets. I do really hate it when they say they can "talk" to their pets (and I am not talking about the certain number of commands a dog and whatnot can learn, and obey. They can recognize some sounds.)

I am afraid around folks that do it, I start talking to their pet in a very excited and cheerful manner. I go on a long diatribe about how I am going to kill them and eat them and poop them out. They come over, they pay attention they wag their tail, I reward them with petting as I talk about gouging out their eyeballs etc.

People hate it. But I always end it with, "Well, your dog doesn't understand ME anyway."

People who humanize their pets TOO much have issues in my opinion. You cannot properly understand a creature without understanding its nature. But then I had horses. Horses are dumb as horse poop. I had this great ex racehorse who would follow me around with out a lead, like a dog.

While it was endearing it was a) because he was extra dumb,. really. He was just like "follow the human" not "I love Anna." Also, it behooved me to lead him if there was going to be ANY type of issue, because at which point he would lose his mind and I'd better have a damn good way of controlling him.

Recognizing those types of facts matter and I also tend to notice a sort of diminishment of ovewieghtness too. I hate fat dog owners with their disgustingly fat animals. If you don't have respect for your OWN life, at least don't destroy a pet.

I will say I will tell NO one what to do with their dog's testicles (other than maybe get them to try to eat if you can because lets face it. how many times in life is that gonna come along?

I was cooking the other day and Sugar came begging for a taste. I told her she wouldn't like. I was cooking moldy old zombie brains ... she begged louder.

They do understand though, if you keep it simple, are persistent and consistent. The miscreants will "test the water", begging. I simple say, "This mine". Not this is mine and you can't have any, simply "This mine". They know they aren't getting any and will go lay down until I'm finished and I reward them with a few bits of kibble each from my hand. And I never reward bad behavior or give up and give in.

Oh and gin mentioned feeding raw veggies. Sure, I give the miscreants a slice or two of carrots now and then. They love the crunchy goodness. BUT dogs digestive systems aren't designed for nor work slowly enough to break down raw veggies and fully absorb nutrients. What I do occasionally is toss some veggies (root veggies, frozen mixed veggies, various dark green colored veggies) and a little water in my VitaMix blender. The VitaMix operates at such high speed, it breaks the veggies down to cell level. I then pour a little of that mushy paste on their kibble. Usually there's enough for a small amount on their kibble for several meals. No salt, pepper or seasoning, just a smooth blended veggie paste. I don't feed it often but when I do, it's blended veggies they can easily digest. Apples, and other fruit I give whole slices ... but not a lot or even much.

Oh, so it's not just me. I cut his treats up smaller and hand them to him one by one so it looks like he is getting more Lol.

EDIT: Yeah, we are going back and forth on the neutering. She said it is up to me, I say it is up to her. I bet in the end, we will get it done but that is not set in stone.

Course, I am one of those folks who like, believes in paying women who are addicted to substances to get an IUD and that's not even PERMANENT and it gets people up in arms. Trust me if you are homeless and chronically addicted to substances and most of the time, society doesn't need your infant. I'm sure there is a heartwarming story of a chronically addicted infant being lovingly adopted to become president someday (MAYBE TODAY! Look at Trump!) but trust me I assure you that is not the norm for your garden variety horribly addicted and premature infant..

When you run for office, I volunteer.

@coldgin96 for when you get Steel chipped: Owner – Found Animals Microchip Registry

Registering your pets is free on this site.

As for the spay/neuter debate, I think it's up to each pet owner to decide for themselves. My three cats have all been fixed, my maine coone I bought from a breeder and was contractually obligated to have her spayed, the other two were rescues from a local shelter and had already had the procedures when I adopted them. My dog has not been spayed, I keep thinking maybe I should, but we have a fenced yard and when she is in heat I am out there with her every time she goes out to be sure she doesn't meet any new friends.
