...and so it was, the inevitable. I've finally killed a Provi. One my beloved Ti's, and one that has just been BATTERED with use from the day it arrived, has finally spit the bit. I insert a battery, and the screen lights up with some oddity or another - it doesn't matter.

I've done the thorough cleaning and all that, and am just accepting that it was bound to happen.

The battery has been removed, along with the extension ring, and it now sits among my gone & revered mods from history. Two EPMs, a Mamu Denali, and my polished/OG "Raw" Billet Box v3. The BB isn't dead, but it's a very important mod to me, and will remain as is (unless I change my mind). ;)

That Ti Provi has served me WELL. Even though it cost me a small fortune, back in the day (as they say), I got my money's worth many times over.

There will be more to follow, of course, but I'm almost glad that it was a Ti that went first. It's appropriate. It was a true warrior in my collection, and stood tall & strong, right to the very end.

Saludos, mi amigo, and Godspeed. Ye shall be missed.

:toast:

But, but... we can rebuild him!

The shell of that Provi could be the recipient of the guts of another...don't toss it out DP...

Needless to say @DPLongo22 you, dearest..........

RIP in the museo.

(save the parts and pave the starts)

iu

"And so it is written..."

I calculated out that this most beloved of mods lasted 4.75 years (almost to the day). End result is that it cost me $64.18 per year, or $5.34 per month, or $.17 per day (I'll spare y'all the hours, minutes, & seconds).

It has seen and survived MANY drops, flops, flips, kicks, bounces, & trounces. The hottest of summer days, and the coldest of winter. A trooper by my side it has surely been, as are/will be its brothers behind it (and still in play, touch wood).

It earned its pay, for sure.

Tomorrow it shall begin a journey southward. To the laboratories of Dr. Duane, ye of mad scientist lore.

What will become of it? Only time (and possibly The Time Warp) knows for sure.

:pop:

WAE II for $119, and it's been sitting (on the dock of the bay). Amazing.

Extraordinary mod, unbelievable price. If I didn't already have one...

;)

I guess maybe I'm one of the few who can get by with a 21mm mod? Thank you, Erlkonigin. :thumb:

Well I guess this answers that question, at least I have a bit more time.

Thank you for posting this, it's really good to know.
The following statement of mine is not a reflection of your post whatsoever. Like I typed, I am glad you posted it so we know.
However, that said, I'm to tired to care anymore. My stomach is churning after reading it. I have to not care anymore. I just can't.

Mark Bugs Wizard's Apprentice Evolved II. DNA30, 21mm, EXTRAORDINARY workmanship, and quite light. The SS feels like a Provi Ti.

If that serial number was 222 (instead of 223), it'd be long.gone (me).

I believe the SS ran about $250 new, $350 for the Ti.

Finish doesn't hold up to the media blasted Provis, but it's okay. Similar to the satin colors (cerakote). They'll show wear.

That's my only thumbs down (picture Phil's thumb thingie here). ;)

With everything going on with the FDA right now, and the possibility of not being able to order stuff anymore. I am tempted to order 2 more Billet box's, 2 of each of the KFL19's, 2 more Dicodes mini's, 1 more Dicodes charger. I also have thought about ordering replacement boards and screens for my Dicodes. If I did all of that in one month, that would be quite a bill to pay all at once. I really wonder if it is really going to happen this time. I have never heard if the FDA is going to appeal that court case they lost.

Happy Birthday, Steel! One year today! The vet keeps saying 12Jul. The lady who sold Steel to us said his Mother started having the pups before midnight, however, Steel was born AFTER midnight during the witching hour, Friday the 13th.

My 1981 Austro Daimler bike developed a problem, the headset ( steering stuff) was sloppy, and when tightened developed what they call indexed steering, meaning the wheel locks into place facing strait ahead. This made riding at slow speeds sketchy, and no hands a definate no go, as the bike is impossible to balance with the steering locked...so I did some research. Found the Sheldon Brown site and that guy was a bike mechanical genius...talked to my local bike guy, and told him what I read and had him do the work.

Basically it involved taking the fork out, ditching the caged bearings, and manually packing 52 loose balls into the top and bottom of the steerer head...so the balls would be at a different spacing than the caged ones, and thereby would not be able to fall into the divots worn into the races and cones of the assembly and no longer able to lock the steering...success! Worked like a charm, and he charged me nominal fee for the work, ...

I wanted to keep this old bike in as much original state as possible...something about riding along on a 38 year old machine soothes me, it's quirkiness, limitations, and yet still functionality after the years elapsed gives me joy in just enjoying it for what it is. It has a leather saddle, only ten speeds, so sometimes I find myself wanting for a gear ratio that isn't there, so I either have to go slower, or work harder to maintain my natural cadence.

I've thought about altering this machine by spreading the dropouts and giving it more modern gearing, but am glad I resisted that temptation, sometimes with old things, they should be just enjoyed for what they were when their time was...and in so doing, honor the skill and craftsmanship of those who built such things...in their own time and place in the grand scheme of all things.

I was really tired when I posted that, but those are all on my wish list. Now that I know I have a bit more time, I am out of panic mode. :| The one thing on that list that worries me the most, is the Billet Box though. I have gotten used to the Rev 4's, and while I like the Rev 3's a bit more, I would like to have a few more Rev 4's in my stash for back up. I doubt if a PMTA will be submitted for them. The other items on that list are from outside the USA, and I don't think they will be shut down by this. Also I am not sure if they are going to stop me from ordering from outside the USA, when the hammer comes down or not.

I'm assuming the worst when it comes to inbound shipments, because I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than caught off guard & unprepared.

Reality is that I've been set for life for some time now, but that hasn't stopped me... ("We ARE Vapers!").

That WAE II jumped into my lap this morning. With the (rare & wonderful) adjustable 510 pin, I decided that a 2nd one was worth it. Given my love of Erls, it's a good match for me. Plus, he accepted a very nice number. :D

I'm not so confident about orders from outside the USA. Remember way back 'when', when shipments were being seized by customs. Could happen again. If a product doesn't meet US regs/standards it could be barred from being imported.
