I never saw that movie front to end. The pieces I saw weren’t working for me so I never took the time to watch it.He was originally scheduled for the part of Roland Deschain (see my avatar), before they completely annihilated the script. They ended up casting Idris Elba, who could have possibly been fine if they hadn't veered off so drastically.
Bardem would have been better, in my opinion, but Elba could have pulled it off. That King allowed such a drastic rewrite surprised and disappointed me (but he's often disappointed me). I knew they'd NEVER be able to turn 3000+ pages into a movie, and wish they had never tried. It sullied the name, The Dark Tower, forever.
SUCH a brilliant piece of written work, turned into shambles by idiots-who-know-better in Hollywood.

And yes , Hollywood is great for wrecking stuff. Especially movies based on real stories. You always find out later they have little to do with the real story. Like the remake of Midway. Not one single mention of Dusty Kleiss the dive bomber pilot who was credited with two direct hits on Japanese carriers and another hit on a destroyer. The Battle of Midway had more to do with winning the war against Japan than any other battle and Hollywood left out the main character. That would be like making a Gandhi movie without mentioning Gandhi.
