Hey everyone! Haven't been around for a while cause I had a baby and life got busy! But anyways, anyone familiar with this method of steeping?
I think I pretty much get the jist of it bit looking for any pointers and have a couple questions:
Firstly, is a plastic bottle ok or does it need to be in a glass one?
Secondly, does the cap need to be off the bottle? Just thinking maybe pressure will build up and it'll pop...
I bought one at harbor freight for like $75 and it seems to work well, but so far I've been keeping the juice in a glass bottle, with the cap off and top up out of the water, and only using the heat every few cycles. If I could, would like to put a plastic bottle in there and completely submerge it..?
Oh yea and one last question, anyone know where I could get a better one with a longer cycle time? Kinda annoying turning it back on every 8 minutes..
P.s. It's also really loud and annoying so any tips on sound proofing are welcome too haha
Thanks all:)

To save you some time, you gotta have glass. And no plastic basket in there either. I suspend the bottles from above, making sure the water in the tank is above the level of the juice. I leave caps on, despite being out of the water. I recommend reading those (3) threads, it just takes forever. Also, I let the batches steep for 2 days after the UC cycles. That seems to work very well for me.

I have the same unit from harbor, and you can use the plastic liner in there but it must be raised up off the bottom to work. I run my juices for 6 x 40 minutes, alternating with heat to keep it around 100F, do not get it too hot over 120F or you might degrade the NIC. I keep caps on while in the ultrasonic, and then let it sit for a couple of days with the caps off and on shaking by hand in between. And yes glass is definitely the best!

Hope this helps you! .... Luck in the Laboratory! :toast:

Here is a post from that thread showing what i did to the basket.

Also i have found out that if you only have a few bottles then you can contain the waves with an old tupperware with the bottom cut out.
