I haven't seen anyone mention this here so I thought I would point out that ceramic coils are also a solution to this problem. They clean themselves (to a point). I mostly use rta's but I also use one setup with vaporesso ceramic coils and they last a very long time. I have one that I have been using for months.

I could really use some help here. I've been vaping for 7 years and lately I'm burning through .5 ohm kanger coils for my nano in 1 to 2 days. Went down to the local brick and mortar shop and they said try a smok stick v8 with the baby tank --.25 ohm coil. Coil lasted one day!!!
Is there a setup I can purchase that won't do this? I've read about the temp controlled devices being better options for chain vapers. What about the smok alien tc?

Background:
1) Yes, I prime the coil, let sit for 10 min, and pull the liquid through a few times prior to firing the mod up.
2) No, the coils aren't bad. My husband uses them too and has no issues, but doesn't vape as much as I do.
3) Yes, my eliquid is sweet
4) No, VG isn't too high
5) I'm waiting 40 sec between pulls (which is super tough by the way) and the coils are still burning in a day.

You know, if you burn the cotton even once, the whole coil is gone. I too have been vaping for 8-9 years and I was a 'vaping baby' during the silica days. Sometimes it's hard for me to grasp that cotton is much more delicate than silica.

If you have been vaping 7 years you would be used to sucking evods and kangertech protanks all day with no burnt cotton issues because silica could be burnt without destroying.

If you are chain vaping there is a chance you are burning the cotton. Once you burn it you might as well throw the coil out unless you can rebuild it.

You aren't mouth to lunging these devices are you?

Get a Rebuildable Tank.

I agree, build your own. Then you can dry burn and replace the cotton every day and won't cost hardly anything but a few minutes of your life.

I would go crazy if I had to re-wick daily. I use rayon and DIY juice with little/no sweeteners and go 100 - 150 ml before I re-wick and dry burn my ss coils but I could actually go longer. The last couple I re-wicked this week were hardly gunked up at all. This is also why I keep 5 - 7 mods in rotation. I generally have to re-wick each tank every 4 - 6 weeks with so many rotation so I usually end up doing 1 or sometimes 2 wicks per week. I dry burn my coils 3 or 4 times before I toss the coils and do a complete rebuild of the tank.

Once the coil is saturated, a lot of juice will have to burn before it really does much to the cotton. When I first started using a dripper I got severely burnt hits almost routinely due to forgetting to drip and it recovers fine, but this was not at all overpowered with the coil properly wet... and yes one more hit on that burnt coil very bad.

You shouldn't ever be burning ejuice (while vaping), so a silica wick allowing burnt hits is no advantage.

Rebuilding is totally doable. It takes some practice and research, certainly. The rebuildable coils section of the board might be a way to get a bit more information on the topic. This is also an area where you tube videos really help... IDK the solution to going through coils that fast, though my coil life isn't great as I have gunking factors, I am able to vape them far longer (lately) than I have been. I have to avoid extra-sweet or dark storebought juices, but since starting DIY that problem has really gone away.... My coils are happier with less sweet, less flavored juice, and while I still enjoy my flavors, they are on the lighter side. It took some tinkering, but I find DIY far easier than coilbuilding. I also wash and rinse my BVC Nautilus coils and reuse them once, to minimize costs. The second go round, they do go bad faster, but they're good for 3-4 days, which isn't bad to extend coil life. I do try to take them out just BEFORE the juice starts tasting awful, but I'm not always successful and it seems to work anyway. I let them sit in hot water then soak for 12 hrs, clean rinse and dry outside to get all the moisture out.

Final point, I find that continuing to inhale after I stop hitting the fire button seems to wick juice up as I go, kind of repriming as it were. Since they're small coils, this seems to help. I really haven't experienced many dry hits vaping in this manner. May also help with the "wait 40 seconds til next drag" issue.

    Good luck!

My advice is to buy a Serpent SMM, some prebuilt coils, and cotton. You will also need a pair of wire snips and pointy tweezers. You don't need to learn to build right away. 1st watch Suck my Mod youtube video for SMM and and a tutorial video about installing coils. Watch the video and you will see easy skill to learn. SMM best rta for beginners IMO.

I completely agree. And Matt's tutorial is very easy to follow.

New Devices are getting easier to build too with nice large spacious decks. I particularly like the OBS Nano for ease of building (not to mention the outstanding flavour).

I have a Serpent SMM waiting for me in the mail and something tells me it might be a candidate for my favorite RTA to date. From the impression I get from the YouTube videos, The Serpent SMM couldn't be any easier to build so long as the user gets the wicking right. Once they get it right the first time, perhaps with the aid of many of the excellent YouTube videos on working the Serpent SMM, then it will be easier to get it right from then on.

Since building and re-wicking may not be an option for everybody, either by choice or physical limitations, a couple suggestions:

Since you have been vaping for quite some time and burning though coils just started, your sweet juice (if new) may be the culprit. Did you try the same juice in your new Stick V8? Try a bottle of something you have used in the past or get something new that is not so sweet and see if your coils last longer. If your coils start lasting longer (or long enough for you), you will have to decide if that great, sweet juice is worth the added cost. Yeah, I know, that really sucks! If that turns out to be the case and you don't want to give up that juice, consider having one tank set up for just that one flavor and treat yourself for a couple of your "kick back and enjoy" hours each day. In effect stretching out the coil life from one 10 hour day to five 2 hour days. I have one sweet juice I do that with, just the last couple hours of the day. That gives me something to look forward to and keeps that flavor "fresh" so I don't tire of it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
That's exactly what the problem was... the juice. I really like it too, so that sucks!! It burned through both coils in a matter of hours. There is char on the coil element. Thanks for your help.

ShyGirl, rebuilding stock coils or switching to an atomizer with a rebuildable coil is only scary until you do it a couple of times. It's really easy if you can use a mini screwdriver and nail clippers, and have the skill to wind a small wire around a small Phillips screwdriver, wrap it around a screw, and tighten the screw, or stick a wire through a hole and tighten a grub screw.

Most vape shops have someone who will instruct and demonstrate how to recoil an atomizer if agree to buy the wire and cotton from them to start building. It's worth a little premium in the price to get a free recoiling lesson. They make a sale and you get to watch and learn and try it while you are there.

I use the ohm meter below as a base to leave both hands free to work. The atomizer base screws on to the threaded part. When you turn it on after installing the coil it reads the coil resistance. That allows you make sure it's not shorted after the coil is installed.

Bake up bros are all severe coil gunkers & wicking material cloggers.
"Fresh apple, sugar & sweet bakery cinnamon" + being heavily sweetened & high % flavorings = very short head life.

Stuff is so gunky folks that use 5+ ml per day & RTA's re wick & dry burn almost daily.

Might be a better idea to find quality liquids you enjoy,,, you do understand you're inhaling the same stuff that is wrecking the heads & gunking the coils...

It's called sugary goodness lol I keep trying to find that holy grail liquid. Thought this was it--super yummy, but not worth $30 a week in coils

The sweetest juice I vape is probably my Mr Meringue in a Big Baby tank with the V8 coils. Just a guesstimate since I only vape it about 2 hours a day, is a coil lasts me give or take 60 - 70 hours or about 5 days. Not sure how that would work on your Stick v8, but should be in the ballpark. Might be worth a try.
